Five people including a young woman and a minor child have been found dead in separate incidents in four districts - Sylhet, Munshiganj, Bogura and Barishal, in three days.

SYLHET: The body of a madrasa student was recovered from the Kushiyara River in Beanibazar Upazila of the district on Saturday afternoon.

The deceased was identified as Salman Ahmed, 14, a student of Jameya Dinia Madrasa and a resident of Angura Muhammadpur Village in the upazila.

It was known that Salman went missing on Friday while bathing in the river near the Old Madrasah Kheowaghat area.

Locals reported that Salman had gone to the river along with his brother despite not knowing how to swim. He was swept away and could not be rescued immediately. A joint search effort involving Fire Service divers, police, and local residents was conducted until Friday evening but proved unsuccessful.

The body was finally retrieved from the river at around 4 pm on Saturday by the divers of Fire Service.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Beanibazar Police Station (PS) Md Sabed Ali confirmed the incident, adding that Salman's family has requested that his body be handed over without an autopsy and the necessary legal formalities are being completed to honour their wishes.

SREENAGAR, MUNSHIGANJ: Police recovered the bullet-wounded body of a young woman from the Dhaka-Mawa highway in Sreenagar Upazila of the district on Saturday morning.

The identity of the deceased, aged about 22 to 24, could not be known immediately.

It was known that local people spotted the body of the woman lying on the Dhaka-Mawa highway in Dogachhi Service road area under the upazila at around 8 am and informed the matter to the police.

Being informed, police recovered the body from the scene and sent it to Munshiganj Sadar Hospital morgue for an autopsy. Five blank cartridges were also recovered from beside the body.

Police assumed that someone might have shot the woman to death at dawn and left the body on the road before fleeing the scene.
Sreenagar PS OC Kaiyum Uddin Chowdhury confirmed the incident, adding that the law enforcers are investigating the matter and trying to identify the deceased.

BOGURA: Police have recovered the body of a four-and-a-half-year-old minor boy, who had been missing since Thursday morning, from a house of his neighbour in the district town on Friday morning.

The body, packed inside a sack, was recovered from Charmatha Dhamak Para area in the town at around 8 am.

The deceased was identified as Mahdi Hasan, son of Shafiqul Islam, a resident of the aforesaid area.

Meanwhile, the law enforcers also arrested the neighbour Tahmina, 31, wife of Anis Mondal of Jangram Village of Shibganj Upazila, for her alleged connection in the incident. Tahmina lives in a rented house in Charmatha Dhamak Para area in the town.

According to the deceased's family and local sources, Mahdi was playing in front of his house on Thursday morning. As his family members could not find him even after searching in the area at around 11 am, they filed a general diary with Bogura Sadar PS.

Later on, police at around 8 am on Friday recovered Mahdi's body from the house packed inside the sack with a letter of demanding Tk 5 lakh as ransom.

Police assumed that Mahdi might have been kidnapped and strangled to death in target of getting ransom.

Bogura Sadar PS OC (Investigation) Moinuddin confirmed the incident, adding that legal procedures are underway and necessary actions will be taken in this regard.

BARISHAL: Police recovered the hanging bodies of two young men in separate incidents in the district on Thursday afternoon and evening.

The deceased were identified as Sohag Hossain, 23, a resident of Barisal City, and Rajib, 28, hailed from West Koralia Village in Hizla Upazila of the district.

Sohag Hossain, a battery-powered auto-rickshaw driver, was found hanging in a garage in Munshibari area of Barisal City.

According to Kotwali Model PS OC Mizanur Rahman, Sohag had gone to the garage in the afternoon to charge his auto-rickshaw.

Later on, local people discovered him hanging and alerted the police.

Being informed, police recovered the body and sent it to Barishal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital (SBMCH) morgue for an autopsy.

Initial investigations suggest that family disputes, possibly related to Sohag's drug addiction, might have led to the incident.

"It appears to be a case of suicide due to family conflicts," said OC Mizanur Rahman.

In a separate case, Rajib, a farmer, was found hanging in an abandoned house in West Koralia Village under Hizla Upazila of the district.

His younger brother discovered the body in the evening after Rajib had been missing since midday.

Being informed, police recovered the body from the scene and sent to the SBMCH morgue for an autopsy.

Hizla PS OC Abul Kalam Azad said that Rajib was struggling with debts and frequently had disputes with his family over financial issues.

"We suspect he took his own life due to financial stress but the exact cause will be determined after getting the autopsy report" the OC added.

Both bodies have been sent for autopsies, and police have stated that further action will be taken based on the findings.
