Three people including a schoolgirl allegedly committed suicide in separate incidents in three districts - Dinajpur, Barguna and Kurigram, on Saturday.
CHIRIRBANDAR, DINAJPUR: A teenage girl reportedly committed suicide by hanging herself in Chirirbandar Upazila of the district on Saturday afternoon.
The incident took place at Bimal Masterer Para of Uchitpur Village under Punatti Union in the upazila at around 5 pm.
The deceased, 15, was the daughter of Bishu Chandra and Parul Rani, a resident of the area. She was an eighth grader of a local high school.
It was known that the girl hanged herself with a scarf from the ceiling of her room in the house in the afternoon out of huff with her parents as they scolded her for not giving concentration on study.
Being informed, police recovered the body and handed it over to the deceased's family members without an autopsy as per their request.
Sub-Inspector of Chirirbandar Police Station (PS) Netai Chandra Roy confirmed the incident, adding that an unnatural death case was filed in this regard.
AMTALI, BARGUNA: A young man, who consumed poison accusing 10 people including his former wife and her parents in Amtali Upazila of the district on Friday, died at Shaheed Shuhrawardi Medical College Hospital in Dhaka on Saturday noon.
Deceased Md Niaz Morshed Tonoy, 26, was the son of Nannu Molla of Gurul Village under Haldia Union in the upazila. He used to live in Ward No. 2 under Amtali Municipality.
It was known that Tonoy got married with Faria Jannati Mim, daughter of Faruk Gazi of Chalabhanga Village in the upazila, in 2018. After six months of the marriage, Tonoy came to know that his wife had an affair with one Rakib. Due to this, a family dispute had been started.
On Friday morning, Tonoy consumed poison at home after posting a status on facebook, where he alleged that he divorced his wife on September 24 last as he could not tolerate her extramarital affairs with multiple men including Rakib, Bahadur and Prince Raj. On October 17, Mim filed a case against her husband after receiving divorce notice. Following this, police arrested Tonoy on the same day. In his facebook post, Tonoy named 10 people including his wife Faria Jannati Mim, father-in-law Faruk Gazi, mother-in-law Khadiza Begum and uncle-in-law Manzu Gazi, and wrote that he is going to kill himself because of them.
Sensing the matter, the family members rescued Tonoy and took to Amtali Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty doctor referred him to Barishal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital (SBMCH) following the deterioration of his condition.
Later on, he was shifted to Shaheed Shuhrawardi Medical College Hospital in Dhaka from the SBMCH for better treatment, where he died on Saturday noon while undergoing treatment.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Amtali PS Md Ariful Islam Arif said that police arrested Tonoy following the court order.
However, legal action would be taken if any complaint is received from the deceased's family, the OC added.
RAJARHAT, KURIGRAM: A trolley driver reportedly committed suicide by hanging himself in Rajarhat Upazila of the district on Saturday.
The deceased was identified as Ramjan Ali, 18, son of Syed Ali, a resident of Chakirposhar Taluk Village under Chakirposhar Union in the upazila.
Police and local sources said that Ramjan hanged himself from the ceiling of his room in the house early Saturday.
The family members then spotted his hanging body in the morning and informed the matter to police.
Being informed, police recovered the body.
Rajarhat PC OC Rezaul Karim Reza confirmed the incident, adding that an unnatural death case was filed with the PS in this regard.
