Teacher killed in Kurigram road crash

An elderly teacher was killed after being hit by a truck at Nageshwari upazila in Kurigram district on Saturday.

The accident took place around 7 PM on Saturday in front of the Upazila Parishad on the Kurigram-Bhurungamari regional highway in the upazila.

The deceased was identified as Solaiman Ali, 66, son of late Asmat Ali and resident of Bidhutpara village under the municipality.

According to the family members, a speeding truck  from Bhurungamari and a pickup van from opposite direction crashed Solaiman in the middle while he was crossing the road, leaving him critically injured.

Locals rescued him and took to Rangpur Medical College Hospital, but he succumbed to his injuries on the way to the hospital.

Enraged by the incident, locals apprehended the truck and handed over to police. However, the truck driver managed to flee the scene.

Nageshwari Police Station officer-in-charge Mizanur Rahman confirmed the incident adding that an unnatural death case was filed in this regard.
