Young Tigers thru Semies trouncing Nepal

Bangladesh Under-19 team confirmed the semi-finals of the Asian Cricket Council Under-19 Asia Cup 2024 winning two off two group matches. They trounced their Nepalese counterparts by five wickets at Dubai International Cricket Stadium in the UAE on Sunday to confirm the play-offs.

Winning the toss Bangladesh opted to field inviting Nepal to bat first. The Young Tigers tied Nepalese at 141 runs after outstanding bowling performances. They started taking wicket at regular intervals from the 6th over of the game as Nepal lost their first wicket to manage 18 runs only. Aakash Tripathi was the leading scorer for Nepal with 43 runs next to his name, while both Uttam Magar and Abhisekh Tiwari gathered 29 runs each. None of the rest batters could even reach a two-digit figure as Nepal could sustain 45.4 overs only to post the mediocre total.

Al Fahad, Iqbal Hossain Emon and Rizan Hossan chipped in with two wickets each for Bangladesh as Saad Islam, Md Rafi Uzzaman Rafi and Azizul Hakim Tamim picked one wicket apiece.

Chasing the decent target of 142 runs, Bangladesh got early jostle losing the opener Kalam Siddiki in the very first over as Kalam failed to open the book. Zawad Abrar and skipper Tamim then started dominating over Nepalese bowlers on the way to 90-run partnership for the second wicket as Zawad departed for 59 runs. Soon after the dismissal of Zawad, Bangladesh lost three quick wickets because Farid Hasan managed to score 13 only, while both Mohammad Shihab James and Rizan Hossan departed for respective ducks. Tamim however, finished the game remaining unbeaten on 52, while Debashish Deba was batting on four as Bangladesh achieved their target losing five wickets in 28.4 overs only.

Yuvraj Khatri hauled four wickets for Nepal, with Hemant Dhami picking the rest.

The Tigers, also the defending Champions, beat Afghanistan by 45 runs in the inaugural match of the event. Sri Lanka are the 4th side in group-B of the event and Lankan Boys also confirmed semifinals beating Afghanistan and Nepal. Therefore, the match between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka on December 3 will be the decider of the group champions.
