Chief of Naval Staff Admiral M Nazmul Hassan said that Bangladesh Navy has transformed into a modern, three-dimensional naval force, capable of safeguarding the country's sovereignty and contributing significantly to maritime economic activities.
Speaking at passing-out parade of B/2024 batch at BNS Sher-e-Bangla parade ground in Patuakhali on Sunday, he said that the ongoing modernization efforts align with the nation's aspirations for sustainable development and prosperity.
The Navy Chief highlighted the inclusion of advanced warships, special forces, helicopters, maritime patrol aircraft (MPA), submarines and newly commissioned naval bases as part of the Navy's expansion. "Continuous efforts are underway to integrate cutting-edge ships, modern warfare equipment, and technology into the fleet."
He also noted that locally manufactured vessels at naval shipyards, such as five patrol crafts recently added from Khulna Shipyard, reflect the Navy's self-reliant development. Projects are in progress to acquire two unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), three landing craft tanks (LCTs), and two utility helicopters which are expected to join the fleet soon.
The Navy Chief attended the ceremony as the chief guest, inspecting and receiving the parade salute from 440 newly trained sailors. In his address, he urged the new sailors to utilize their training to become skilled professionals capable of tackling modern challenges and contributing to national security.
Admiral Hassan praised their decision to serve the nation and expressed optimism that the new sailors would protect Bangladesh's vast maritime boundaries while contributing to the country's growth. He also distributed awards to outstanding sailors and reiterated the importance of developing a skilled and disciplined Navy to address emerging global challenges. He encouraged the new sailors to uphold their responsibilities and contribute to the Navy's ongoing progress.
The event was attended by senior military and civilian officials, local dignitaries from Patuakhali, Barisal, and Khulna regions, and the families of the new sailors.
