Bus overturns, injures 20 Buddhist devotees in Rangamati

RANGAMATI, Nov 29: Twenty people have been injured after a bus overturned in Manikchhari here. The passengers on the bus were on their way to Rajban Bihar for a religious event.

The bus veered out of control and overturned as it reached the Bir Srestha Munshi Abdur Rouf Square area at the entrance to Manikchhari town on Friday morning, said Md Shahed Uddin, chief of the Kotwali Police Station.
The bus passengers say they are all Buddhist devotees.

Forty of them set off by bus from Chattogram's Rangunia on Friday morning to take part in a religious event at Rajban Bihar.

Their bus met an accident as it reached the Manikchhari area.

Police and the Fire Service rescued the victims when the incident was reported and took them to Rangamati General Hospital.

Sadia Chowdhury, a doctor at the hospital, said three of the victims had critical injuries and were sent to Chattogram Medical College Hospital. The others are receiving treatment in Rangamati.
