Plying of all kinds of long-distant buses from Benapole Land Port under Sharsha upazila in Jashore district has resumed after a week.

Bus counters and land port bus terminals have also been opened.
Transport leaders said plying of all kinds of long-distant buses from Benapole resumed on Friday (November 29) morning following a fruitful discussion with the Ministry of Shipping and Land Port Chairman Manzarul Mannan in Dhaka on Thursday evening.

The meeting was attended by 15 transport owners, four transport staff from Benapole, the shipping advisor and the port chairman.

The Benapole Land Port authorities said the adviser for the Ministry of Shipping and Land Port chairman had accepted all the demands of Benapole Transport Owners Association and transport workers association. The long-distant airconditioned (AC) buses will be operated from the Benapole Checkport Land Port from now on.

Transport officials said a meeting was held between Jashore deputy commissioner, local citizens, and transport officers a week ago to address traffic congestion.

The meeting decided that long-haul and local buses departing for cities, including Jashore and Dhaka, would operate from the municipal bus terminal, two kilometres from Benapole Bazar.

Benapole Transport Managers Association general secretary Mizanur Rahman said the upazila administration had inaugurated a new municipal bus terminal at Kagajpukur in Benapole on November 7 last. All the activities were going on as usual.

Passengers had to be dropped off at the Kagojpukur terminal late at night, leading to disputes between transport owners and workers.

"This conflict resulted in the suspension of all long-distant bus operations since November 23."

Mamun Kabir Tarafdar, deputy director of Benapole Port, said, "The chairman of the land port has asked me to open the Benapole Port Bus Terminal. AC buses will operate regularly from here."
