Martyrs of July-August uprising remembered in districts

Remembrance meetings were organized in districts including Gaibandha, Dinajpur, Kushtia, Noakhali and Netrakona in two days, recalling the memories of those martyred and injured in the July-August mass uprising. 

GAIBANDHA: A memorial meeting was held in the conference room of the deputy commissioner's (DC) in the district town on Thursday, remembering the martyrs and the injured persons of July-August mass uprising.

Gaibandha DC Chowdhury Muazzam Ahmed presided over the function while Additional DC (ADC) (General) Hedayetul Islam moderated it.

Superintend of Police (SP) Mosarrof Hossain, Civil Surgeon (CS) Kaniz Sabiha, General Secretary (GS) of District Unit of BNP Mahamudun Nabi Titul, its Vice-President Shahiduzzaman Shahid, District Ameer of Jamaat-e-Islami Abdul Karim, its former district Ameer Dr Abdur Rahim and Shamsuzzaman Siddiquee Mamun from Gana Odhikar Forum, among others, also addressed the meeting.

Apart from it, the leaders of different political parties and the representatives of anti-discrimination student movement took part in the discussion.

At the very outset of the meeting, one minute silence was observed to pay respect to the memory of the martyrs of the uprising.

Muazzam Ahmed emphasised that various welfare measures are being initiated for the families of martyrs and those injured during the movement.

He said that a list of 129 people who became the martyrs and injured during the uprising has been prepared so far. Within a few days, a complete and verified list of martyrs and injured individuals is being prepared, the DC added.

To make the list perfect and flawless, he sought whole-hearted cooperation from all. The district administration will continue to stand by the victims in future, he further said.

During the meeting, the persons who became injured during the movement urged the interim government through the administration to take necessary steps for their better treatment.

The members of the martyr family also requested the government to provide a job to one of their family members to help them pass their days without hardship.

Later on, a doa mahfil was held for seeking divine blessings of the departed souls of the martyrs and quick recovery of all injured students and people of the July-August uprising.

DINAJPUR: A memorial meeting was held in the district town on Thursday recalling the memories of the martyrs and injured in the July-August mass uprising.

District administration organized the meeting at its conference room with DC Rafiqul Islam in the chair.

At the memorial meeting, financial assistance of Tk 25,000 was provided to each family member of eight martyrs -  Shaheed Md  Rabiul Islam Rahul, Rudro Sen, Al Amin Islam  alias Selim, Md Ashiqur Rahman, Suman Patwary, Md Asadul Huq Babu, Md Ziaur Rahman and Md Masud Reza who were killed in the anti-discrimination student movement in the district.

Family members of the martyrs demanded job opportunities for their relatives who are capable for doing job.

Speaking on the occasion, Dinajpur CS Dr Asif Ferdous said that the students Sizan, Mirajul Islam, Rafiq, Tamim and Russell, who were injured in the anti-discrimination student movement, have been provided with advanced medical treatment in Dhaka under the management of the district administration.

He further said that if any injured is still deprived of getting medical services or treatment they have been urged to contact offices of the DC or CS.

KUSHTIA: The district administration on Thursday organized a memorial meeting remembering the martyrs of July-August mass uprising at the Zila Shilpakala Academy auditorium here.

Chaired by DC Md Towfiqur Rahman, the meeting was addressed, among others, by SP Md Mizanur Rahman, Jashore Cantonment Rowshan Ara Regiment CO Lieutenant Colonel Mahbubul Alam Shikdar, 47 BGB Captain Mahbub Morshed, CS Dr Md Akul Uddin, Anti-Discrimination Student Movement District Unit Member Secretary Mustafizur Rahman, injured Rakubul Hasan Rinku and Shariful Islam and martyr Md Sabuj's wife Reshma Khatun.

The family members of martyrs and injured were present at the memorial meeting.

After the meeting, a special munajat was offered seeking eternal peace of the departed souls of all the martyrs of student-led mass uprising and early recovery of all the injured persons of the movement.

Later on, financial assistance was distributed on behalf of the district administration to the family members of martyrs and injured persons.

NOAKHALI: The district administration on Thursday organized a memorial meeting remembering the martyrs of July-August mass uprising at the Zilla Shilpakala Academy auditorium in the town.

Chaired by DC Khandakar Ishtiak Ahmed, the meeting was addressed, among others, by SP Md Abdullah Al Faruque, CS Dr Masum Ifthekhar, Jamaat-e-Islami District Ameer Ishak Khandakar and BNP District Unit Joint GS Professor Liakat Ali Khan.

The family members of martyrs and injured were present at the memorial meeting.

After the meeting, a special munajat was offered seeking eternal peace of the departed souls of all the martyrs of student-led mass uprising and early recovery of all the injured persons of the movement.

Gifts were also distributed on behalf of the district administration to the family members of martyrs and injured persons.

NETRAKONA: The district administration on Wednesday organized a memorial meeting commemorating the martyrs of July-August mass uprising in the DC office conference room.

Chaired by DC Netrakona Bonani Biswash, the meeting was addressed, among others, by SP Mirza Saiem Mahmud, Additional District Magistrate Shamim-AL-Imran, Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Asma Binte Rafique and District Unit Convener of Anti-Discrimination Student Movement Sheikh Hasnat Joni.

The family members of martyrs and injured persons were present at the memorial meeting.

After the meeting, a special munajat was offered seeking eternal peace of the departed souls of all the martyrs of student-led mass uprising and early recovery of all the injured persons of the movement.
