A college girl was killed and 23 others were injured in two separate road accidents in Rangamati district on Friday.
The first accident occurred at noon on the Bangalhalia-Chandraghona road where a tourist bus traveling from Chandraghona collided head-on with a CNG-run auto-rickshaw coming from Bandarban. The crash resulted in the death of a college girl on the spot.
The deceased was identified as Maipay Marma, hailed from Bandarban district. She was a student at Rangunia College. Four others sustained serious injuries and were rushed to Chandraghona Christian Hospital for treatment.
In a separate incident earlier in the day, a vehicle carrying pilgrims overturned at Manikchhari Shalbagan on its way to Rajban Bihar in Rangamati. The pilgrims were traveling from Rangunia to attend a ceremony at the temple. The accident left 19 people injured, two of whom were in critical condition and were referred to Chattogram Medical College Hospital.
According to the injured pilgrims, the vehicle lost control at Shalbagan, causing it to overturn. Local residents promptly arrived to assist in the rescue operation. Police and fire service personnel later arrived at the scene and transported the injured to Rangamati Hospital.
Doctors at Rangamati Hospital's emergency department confirmed that the injured were receiving medical care, with the critically injured transferred to Chattogram. The remaining patients have been admitted to various hospital wards.
Police sources stated that both accidents were caused by a loss of control of the vehicles. Investigations are ongoing to ascertain further details.
