Dhaka University (DU) Vice-Chancellor Prof Niaz Ahmed Khan on Thursday emphasised the importance of remembering the debt owed to the martyrs and the injured of the July Uprising.
Speaking at a memorial event at the university's Teacher-Student Centre (TSC), he urged everyone to fulfill their responsibilities while keeping the sacrifices of the uprising in mind.
Prof Khan highlighted the ongoing sufferings of those affected by the uprising, stating, "Many people are still suffering in hospitals from the wounds of that movement. Whenever I get the chance, I visit them and witness firsthand the extent of their sacrifices."
The event, organised by DU, included a discussion on the history and significance of the July Uprising, followed by a cultural programme in remembrance of the martyrs and the wounded.
DU Pro-Vice Chancellor (Admin) Prof Sayema Haque Bidisha announced plans to establish a "July Corner" or museum on campus to honour the martyrs.
She said, "We aim to keep the memory of the July Uprising alive through academic engagement, including seminars and discussions."
The programme also included prayers for the martyrs and a screening of videos depicting the heroism of those involved in the uprising.
