‘Janatar Bazar’ launched for low-income people

BARAIGRAM, NATORE, Nov 28: 'Janatar Bazar' has been launched for low-income people in Laxmicole of Baraigram Upazila. Low-income people can buy all kinds of vegetables from this market at a low price. The market will be open two days a week- Monday and Thursday.

The upazila administration, Baraigram municipality and Natore Interest Protection Committee have launched this vegetable market called 'Janatar Bazar' to reach fresh vegetables directly from the farmers' fields to consumers at a fair price. Rover Scout members assist in shopping at the public market.

UNO Laila Jannatul Ferdous inaugurated this temporarily market in front of Baraigram Municipal Market on Thursday afternoon. 
Municipal Executive Officer Jalal Uddin, General Secretary of Upazila Press Club Abdul Mannan and Joint Secretary Mohammad Ali Gazi, Convener of Upazila Chhatra Dal Zahid Hasan Bipul, Baraigram Upazila Convener of Natore Interest Protection Committee Sajedul Bashar and Joint Convener Jannatul Ferdous Mahi were present at that time.

On the opening day, various vegetables including potatoes, onions, cauliflower, cabbage and eggs are sold at low prices from the market. Onion is sold at Tk 115 per kg, potato at Tk 70, cauliflower at Tk 45, cabbage at Tk 35 per kg and eggs at Tk 12 per kg.

All types of vegetables are being sold at 10-20 taka less per kg than the conventional market. Buyers are happy to buy vegetables at low prices in this market. However, their demand is to sell other items besides vegetables.

Makhlesh Gazi, a buyer who came to buy vegetables, said, "We are happy to open this market. On the first day, I saw all the vegetables being sold at low prices. Onion is being sold at Tk 125 per kg in the market, I bought it from here at Tk 115 per kg. Besides, I bought potatoes at the rate of Tk 70 per kg.

Another buyer Asmat Ullah said, "We would have benefited more if we get other daily necessities in this market besides vegetables. We demand from the organizers that they sell other products along with vegetables.
