A group of students of Jahangirnagar University (JU) on Tuesday objected to  construction of new Fine Arts Faculty Building near Shaheed Salam-Barkat Hall.

The students are concerned about the environmental impact of the project and the location of the building, which they argue could disturb the peaceful environment of Shaheed Salam-Barkat Hall

The protesters laid siege to the administrative building for an indefinite period.

After Vice Chancellor Prof Kamrul Ahsan came to the protesters they had an altercation with him, the Pro VCs, the treasurer, the Proctor as well as the teachers.

A group students from Shaheed Salam-Barqat Hall in a procession came to the new administrative building after parading different streets of the campus.

The protesting students alleged that the project director, Associate Professor Maiz Uddin of the Fine Arts Department, along with members of the university's Chhatra League unit, was involved in the forcible cutting down of trees in the area.
