Seven people including two women have been murdered in separate incidents in seven districts - Barishal, Pabna, Moulvibazar, Netrakona, Narsingdi, Barguna and Bhola, in four days.
BARISHAL: A three-month pregnant woman was allegedly strangled by her husband in Hizla Upazila of the district on Sunday night.
Police, however, arrested the accused Parvez Chowkidar, 25, from Char Fasson Upazila in Bhola District on Monday.
The deceased was identified as Suravi Begum, 20, wife of Parvez Chowkidar. She was the daughter of Sabuj Bagha of Majherchar Adarsha Village under Dhulkhola Union in Hizla Upazila.
According to the deceased's family sources, Suravi and Parvez were married about two years back. About two weeks back, the couple had come to visit Suravi's parents' house at Majherchar Adarsha Village under Dhulkhola Union.
Suravi's mother Sheuli Begum said that on Sunday night, an argument erupted between the couple. Later that night, Parvez allegedly strangled Suravi with a scarf and left her body wrapped in a blanket before fleeing the scene. Later on, Suravi's parents discovered her body at early hours of Monday and raised the alarm.
Neighbours suspected Parvez after he was found missing and locals apprehended him at the nearby Ulania Launch Terminal in Mehendiganj Upazila of the district.
Sabuj Bagha, father of the deceased, filed a murder case with Hizla Police Station (PS) accusing Parvez of killing his daughter over domestic disputes.
Confirming the incident, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Hizla PS Md Abul Kalam Azad stated, "We have recovered Suravi's body from the scene and sent it to the Barishal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital morgue for an autopsy. Parvez has been arrested and is being presented before the court in connection with the murder case filed against him."
However, the law enforcers are continuing their investigation into the tragic incident, the OC added.
SANTHIA, PABNA: A former leader of an extremist group was hacked and slaughtered to death and his nephew injured by unidentified miscreants in Santhia Upazila of the district on Sunday night.
The incident took place in Rauti Uttarpara Government Primary School area under Dhulauri Union of the upazila at around 9 pm.
The deceased was identified as Bakul Mia, 45, son of Rowshan Mia, a resident of Rauti Village.
The injured person is Alep Hossain, nephew of the deceased.
Quoting locals, Santhia PS OC Saidur Rahman said that the attackers confronted Bakul while he was returning home at around 9 pm after delivering paddy on a horse cart to one Jalal Master.
The attackers hacked him mercilessly and slaughtered him. His nephew Alep Hossain was also injured at that time as he came forward to save his uncle.
Being informed, police recovered the body from the scene and sent it to Pabna Sadar Hospital morgue for an autopsy on Monday.
However, the law enforcers are investigating the matter and legal action would be taken after investigation, the OC added.
KAMALGANJ, MOULVIBAZAR: A robber was beaten to death and two others were seriously injured while committing robbery in the house of a union parishad (UP) member in Kamalganj Upazila of the district early Sunday.
The incident took place in Nurjahan Tea Garden area under Madhabpur Union of the upazila at around 4 am.
The deceased was identified as Alal Mia, hailed from Moglabazar in Dakshin Surma Upazila of Sylhet District.
The injured persons are: Abdul Maleq alias Prakash Maleq, 41, son of late Abul Hossain; and Jashim Mia, son of Shraban Mia.
Both of them are residents of Sreepur Village under Islampur Union in the upazila.
Police and local sources said that a group of 10 to 15 robbers entered the house of UP Member Saleh Ahmed in Nurjahan Tea Garden area under Madhabpur Union of the upazila at around 4 am to loot valuables. Sensing the matter, local tea workers chased them and were able to catch the three robbers. They then started beating the trio mercilessly, leaving Alal Mia dead on the spot and two others severely injured.
Being informed, police recovered the body.
Locals, however, handed over the injured robbers to the police in the morning. The injured robbers were admitted to Moulvibazar Sadar Hospital.
Later on, the law enforcers arrested a man, named Sejul Mia, in connection with the incident.
Kamalganj PS Inspector (Investigation) Shamim Akhanjee confirmed the matter, adding that legal action would be taken in this regard.
NETRAKONA: A young man was reportedly hacked to death by his maternal uncle over a land dispute in Kendua Upazila of the district on Saturday night.
The deceased was identified as Harun Miah, 26, son of Royas Uddin, a resident of Kandapara Village in the upazila.
Local sources said that Harun had locked in an altercation with his maternal cousins over a land dispute on Saturday afternoon. Hearing this, Abdul Haque, maternal uncle of Harun, along with his sons, attacked on Harun, leaving him critically injured.
Later on, he was rescued and taken to Kendua Upazila Health Complex first, and then transferred to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital (MMCH) for better treatment, where he succumbed to his injuries at night.
On information, police recovered the body and sent it to the MMCH morgue for an autopsy.
Kendua PS OC Md Mizanur Rahman confirmed the incident, adding that the law enforcers are trying to detain those involved in the killing and legal action would be taken in this connection.
NARSINGDI: A man was killed in an attack carried out by his rivals over a land dispute in Monohardi Upazila of the district on Friday afternoon.
Three others were also injured in the incident that took place in Birgaon Village under Krishnapur Union of the upazila at around 3 pm.
The deceased was identified as Md Ain Uddin, 47, a resident of the aforesaid area.
The injured persons are: Taslima Akhter, wife of the deceased, Main Uddin, younger brother of Ain Uddin, and Main Uddin's wife Mahmuda Akhter Sathi.
Local sources said that Ain Uddin had a dispute over land with his neighbour Rafiqul Islam, 33, son of Jalal Uddin, for the last one month. Following this, Rafiqul along with 30 to 35 people attacked the house of Ain Uddin in the afternoon, and hacked them with indigenous weapons, which left four members of the family including Ain Uddin critically injured.
Locals then rescued the injured and took them to Monohardi Upazila Health Complex, from where the on-duty doctor shifted Ain Uddin to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) as his condition deteriorated further.
Later on, Ain Uddin succumbed to his injuries at the DMCH at around 8 pm while undergoing treatment.
Being informed, police recovered the body.
Monohardi PS OC Md Juwel Hasan confirmed the incident, adding that legal action would be taken in this regard.
BETAGI, BARGUNA: A woman was strangulated to death by miscreants in Betagi Upazila of the district on Thursday night.
The incident took place in Ayla Chandkhali Village under Kazirabad Union of the upazila.
The deceased was identified as Nasima Begum, 55, wife of late Abdul Hye.
It was known that after the death of her husband Abdul Hye about 20 years back, Nasima Begum had been living alone in her father's house in Ayla Chandkhali Village under Kazirabad Union of the upazila.
Police and the deceased's family sources said that Nasima was the mother of three daughters, and the daughters live in Khulna with their families. On Thursday night, a group of miscreants entered the house, and strangled Nasima.
Momtaz Begum, sister-in-law of Nasima, saw the door of the house open in the following morning. Later on, neighbours rushed in and saw Nasima's body.
The deceased's paternal cousin brother Md Nesar Uddin said that Nasima had some gold ornaments. Miscreants might have looted those after killing her sometime at night.
Being informed, police recovered the body from the scene and sent it to Barguna Sadar Hospital morgue for an autopsy.
Additional Superintend of Police in Sadar Circle Abdul Halim confirmed the incident, adding that the law enforcers are investigating the matter and trying to detain those involved in the killing.
LALMOHAN, BHOLA: A local leader of Bangladesh Jatiotabadi Jubodal, who was seriously injured in a clash over occupying bazar in Lalmohan Upazila of the district, died at the DMCH at dawn on Thursday.
The deceased was identified as Abu Taiyab, a resident of Ward No. 2 under Badarpur Union in the upazila. He was the general secretary of the ward unit of Bangladesh Jatiotabadi Jubodal.
Lalmohan Upazila BNP Member Secretary Shafiqul Islam Babul said that Abu Taiyab used to collect government toll from Debirchar Bazar in the upazila after the fall of the Awami League (AL)-led government.
Badarpur Union BNP (North) President Shahidullah Melkar said that on November 18, former UP chairman and AL leader Asad Ullah Melkar with some goons attacked on the BNP men in the bazar over collecting tolls. At that time, several BNP supporters were injured.
Of the injured, Abu Taiyab and Shawon were admitted to the DMCH.
Later on, Abu Taiyab succumbed to his injuries at the DMCH at dawn on Thursday while undergoing treatment.
Being informed, police recovered the body.
However, the law enforcers have detained nine in this connection on the day of the clash.
Lalmohan PS OC Md Sirajul Islam confirmed the incident, adding that legal action would be taken in this regard.
