Five drown in Cox’s Bazar, Bhola, Gazipur

Four minor children and a female garments worker drowned in separate incidents in three districts - Cox's Bazar, Bhola and Gazipur, in two days.

COX'S BAZAR: Three boys drowned in Teknaf Upazila of the district.

The bodies of two madrasa students, who went missing while bathing in the sea at Teknaf on Sunday noon, have been recovered on Monday. 

The deceased were identified as Imran Hossain, 12, son of Korban Ali, and Nazrul Haque, 12, son of Nazir, residents of Konkar Para Village under Teknaf Sadar Union in the upazila.

Locals spotted two bodies floating at Sabrang Lambari Beach Point in Teknaf in the morning and informed the police. 

Being informed, police recovered the bodies from the scene. 

Earlier, the body of a student was recovered on Sunday in the incident.

The deceased was identified as Nur Kamal, 10, son of Saddam Hossain of Khonkarpara in Ward No. 5 of Teknaf Sadar Union.

The three boys were swept away by the current when they went to bathe in the sea at around 12:45 pm on Sunday. Later on, members of the fire brigade and the Coast Guard launched a rescue operation to rescue them.

Teknaf Upazila Nirbahi Officer Sheikh Ehesan Uddin said that 10 to 15 students of the Hefz department of Maulvi Elias Madrasa in Khunkarpara went to play football on the seashore on Sunday. After the game, the three boys went to bathe in the sea water.

All three drowned in the water due to the strong current. Nur Kalam was rescued on Sunday with the help of locals and taken to the hospital, where the on-duty doctor declared him dead. The bodies of two more students were recovered on Monday morning.

LALMOHAN, BHOLA: A minor boy drowned in a pond in Lalmohan Upazila of the district on Sunday morning.

The deceased was identified as Md Farhan, 1, son of Saudi Arabia expatriate Md Shamsuddin, a resident of Ward No. 8 Western Para under Lalmohan Municipality.

The deceased's paternal aunt Akhi Akhter said that Farhan fell in a pond next to the house in the morning while playing with other children. 

Sensing the matter, the family members rescued him from the pond and rushed to Lalmohan Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty doctor declared the child dead.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Lalmohan Police Station (PS) Md Sirajul Islam confirmed the incident, adding that an unnatural death case was filed with the PS and legal action would be taken if any complaint is received from the deceased's family in this regard.

KALIGANJ, GAZIPUR: A female garments worker drowned in the Shitalakshya River while returning home after finishing work on a trawler in Kaliganj Upazila of the district on Saturday night.

The deceased was identified as Farida Begum, 44, daughter of Moktar Molla, hailed from Faridpur District. She was a worker at a garments factory in Gazipur and used to live in a rented house in the area.

It was known that Farida along with her colleagues was returning home by trawler after work. When the trawler arrived near Phulasshari Ghat, Farida fell into the river accidentally, and drowned there. She was then rescued and taken to Kaliganj Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty doctor declared her dead.

On information, police recovered the body and sent it to the Gazipur Shahid Tajuddin Ahmed Medical College Hospital morgue for an autopsy.

Kaliganj PS OC Md Alahuddin confirmed the incident.
