The Islamic University (IU) in Kushtia marked its 46th university day on Monday (25 November) with vibrant celebrations, showcasing the university's spirit and aspirations for growth.
The day-long event was filled with colorful activities and a commitment to academic and institutional reform.
The celebrations commenced with Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Nakib Muhammad Nasrullah hoisting the national flag, while the University Day Celebration Committee Convener Professor Dr. Alinoor Rahman hoisted the university flag at the central football ground. The Vice-Chancellor then inaugurated the festivities by releasing pigeons and balloons, symbolizing peace and aspirations, followed by a cake-cutting ceremony.
A vibrant procession, led by the Vice-Chancellor, brought together thousands of participants, including teachers, students, and staff. The procession traversed the campus and adjacent Kushtia-Khulna highway, culminating in a floral tribute at the university's foundation stone.
The day also featured an exhibition of the university's education and research activities at the ‘Amtola’ area, which drew considerable interest from attendees.
A discussion meeting held at the Bir-Shreshtha Hamidur Rahman central auditorium was the centerpiece of the event. Vice-Chancellor Dr. Nakib Muhammad Nasrullah, addressing as the chief guest, reiterated the university's founding principles of blending Islamic values with modern education.
"Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman established this university with an international vision. We are committed to realizing that dream by elevating IU to global standards in education and research," he said. He emphasized reforms based on Quranic laws and vowed to address students' aspirations and demands.
Special guests, including theology faculty dean Professor Dr. ABM Siddiqur Rahman Asrafi and Al-Quran and Islamic Studies department chairperson Professor Dr. Nasir Uddin Mizy, along with other distinguished faculty members, shared their perspectives on the university’s achievements and future goals.
The event also featured cultural performances by renowned Bangladeshi artists, including Moshiur Rahman and Obayedullah Tarek, adding an entertainment flair to the day.
Student leader SM Sweet addressed the audience, advocating for anti-discriminatory reforms and urging the administration to align with student aspirations.
The event, organized meticulously by the University Day Celebration Committee, concluded on a high note, celebrating IU’s rich legacy and laying the foundation for a promising future. Despite the day being a holiday, the enthusiasm and participation reflected the unity and dedication of the IU community.
