A 10-year-old boy drowned and two other children went missing while bathing in Cox’s Bazar's Teknaf Beach on Sunday.
The deceased, Nur Kamal, 10, was son of Saddam Hossain from Khonkarpara in Ward 5 of Teknaf Sadar Union.
The incident occurred around 12:45 PM at Khonkarpara Point of the beach, confirmed Teknaf Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Muhammad Gias Uddin.
The missing children are Mohammad Babul, 10, son of Korban Ali, and Manjurul Islam (12), son of Md. Nazir Ahmed, both from the same area.
According to OC Gias Uddin and local sources, a group of 10–15 children from the Khonkarpara area went to play at the beach. While bathing in the sea, three of them were swept away by the strong currents. Hearing the other children's cries for help, locals rushed to the scene and managed to retrieve one child but he was already dead. The other two children remain unaccounted for.
Police, firefighters, and local fishermen are conducting search and rescue operations to locate the missing children. The body of the deceased child has been handed over to his family, OC Gias Uddin added.
