Female garment worker drowns in Shitalakshya river

A female garment worker drowned in the Shitalakshya river while returning home after finishing work on a trawler at Kaliganj upazila in Gazipur district on Saturday night.

The deceased was identified as Farida Begum, 44, daughter of Moktar Molla, who hailed from Faridpur district. She was a worker at a garment factory in Gazipur and used to live in a rented house in the area.
It was learnt that Farida, along with her colleagues, was returning home by trawler. When the trawler arrived near Phulasshari Ghat, Farida fell into the river and drowned. She was later rescued and taken to Kaliganj Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty doctors declared her dead.

Upon receiving information, police recovered the body and sent it to the Gazipur Shahid Tazuddin Ahmed Medical College Hospital morgue for an autopsy, said Md. Alahuddin, officer-in-charge of Kaliganj Police Station.
