SHERPUR, Nov 24: A schoolgirl reportedly committed suicide by hanging herself in Nakla Upazila of the district on Friday.
The incident took place in Majidbari area under Talki Union of the upazila at night.
Deceased Rumana Akter, 15, was the daughter of Osman Mia of the area. She was a ninth grader at Noyabari High School.
According to the deceased's family sources, Rumana had dinner with her family as usual on Friday night and then went to her bedroom to sleep.
The following morning, when she was late to wake up, the family members went to check on her and discovered her body hanging from the ceiling of her room. They immediately contacted the police, who recovered the body from the scene.
Officer-in-Charge of Nakla Police Station (PS) Habibur Rahman said, "The body has been recovered and brought to the PS.
Initially, it appears to be a case of suicide, but the actual reason behind it remains unclear. Further investigation is going on.”
