Five people including a woman were killed and three others injured in separate road accidents in four districts - Cox's Bazar, Narayanganj, Jhenidah and Barishal, on Saturday.
COX'S BAZAR: Two young men were killed in a road accident in Chakaria Upazila of the district on Saturday night.
The accident took place at around 10 pm in front of Dwinia Madrasa at Uttar Harbang Villager Para under Harbang Union in the upazila.
The identities of the deceased could not be known immediately.
Quoting locals, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Chiringa Highway Police Station (PS) Ariful Amin said that the two youths were returning from Cox's Bazar at night riding on a motorcycle.
On the way, an unidentified vehicle hit their motorcycle in front of Dwinia Madrasa at Uttar Harbang Villager Para under Harbang Union in the upazila at around 10 pm, leaving the duo dead on the spot.
Being informed, police recovered the bodies from the scene.
However, the law enforcers are trying to identify the deceased youths and necessary steps would be taken in this connection, the OC added.
NARAYANGANJ: A woman was killed in a road accident in Araihazar Upazila of the district on Saturday noon.
The accident took place in Kalibari area under Duptara Union of the upazila at around 2:45 pm.
The deceased was identified as Rubi Begum, wife of Karim Mia, a resident of Doshdona area under Bancharampur PS in Brahmanbaria District.
Police and local sources said that Rubi Begum was returning her house at Doshdona of Bancharampur in Brahmanbaria from Dhaka on Saturday riding on a CNG.
On the way, due to the CNG's sudden hard break in Kalibari area under Duptara Union of Araihazar Upazila at around 2:45 pm, the house got severe head injuries after being hit by a road inside the vehicle.
Locals then rescued the injured and immediately took her to Araihazar Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty doctor declared Rubi Begum dead at around 3 pm.
Being informed, police recovered the body.
However, locals seized the CNG and caught its driver, named Helal, 30. They then handed him over to the police.
Araihazar PS OC Md Enayet Hossain confirmed the incident, adding that legal action would be taken in this regard.
JHENIDAH: A truck driver was killed and three other people were injured in a head-on collision between two trucks in Sadar Upazila of the district on Saturday.
The accident took place in Notunbari area under the upazila in the morning.
The deceased was identified as Al Amin, 25, son of Azizul Islam, a resident of Kotchandpur Upazila in the district.
It was known that a fertiliser-carrying truck coming from Chattogram Port collided head-on with a sand-laden truck in Notunbari area of the upazila in the morning.
The driver of the fertiliser-laden truck died on the spot and the other three people from both vehicles were injured at that time.
The injured were rescued and taken to a hospital. On information, police recovered the body and sent it to Jhenidah Sadar Hospital morgue for an autopsy.
Jhenidah's Arampur Highway PS OC Mritanjoy Biswas confirmed the incident, adding that necessary steps would be taken in this connection.
BARISHAL: A motorcyclist was killed in a collision with a brick-laden trolley in Wazirpur Upazila of the district on Saturday morning.
The deceased was identified as Ruman Hawlader alias Rupom, 22, son of Md Mostafa Hawlader, a resident of Dhamshar Village in the upazila.
According to the deceased's family members and locals, Rupom was heading towards his workplace in Purano Shikaripur from his home in the morning riding on a motorcycle.
The accident occurred near the Dighirpar area when his motorcycle collided head-on with a brick-laden trolley coming from the opposite direction. Rupom died on the spot.
Sub-Inspector (SI) of Wazirpur Model PS Jyotirmoy Haldar stated that the trolley driver Yasin fled the scene immediately after the accident.
As the deceased's family did not file any complaints, police handed over Rupom's body to his family following necessary procedures, the SI added.
