Call for empowering parents with tools of modern age

Workshop on Smart Parenting held

Parenting in today's digital world presents both unique challenges and opportunities. To support parents navigating this evolving landscape, Siyyid Mustafa Rumi Trust is excited to announce holding the first Workshop on Smart Parenting on Saturday (November 23, 2024) at the National Baha'i Center in Dhaka. 

This interactive workshop offers essential tools, knowledge and insights to empower parents with the skills they need to foster healthy, balanced family dynamics in a tech-savvy world.
The Smart Parenting Workshop is designed for parents, guardians, teachers, university students, apprentice and caregivers of children of all ages who are seeking expert guidance on raising resilient, responsible, and accomplished children. 

The program focused on various topics in the sessions led by child development experts, educationists, and psychologists who understand the impact of today's digital and social landscape on young minds.

The workshop was held in a collaborative and reciprocal interaction featuring thought-provoking topics. 

Prof Mohammad Nazmul Haq, Director of Teachers Training Institute and former Professor of IER, Dhaka University, explained about types of parenting, concluding an authoritative type of parenting to be the best of its kind, where the parents are nurturing, responsive, and supportive, yet set firm limits for their children and are therefore respected. 

Other resource persons included Dr. Jena D. Hamadani, Emeritus Scientist at Child Development Unit of icddr,b; Umme Kulsum Koli, Psychologist, and Dr. Mahabub Hossain, Trainer and Translator. 

The program was moderated by Mr. Rahim Sarwar, Animator for junior youth spiritual empowerment program.

1. Six inevitable advices for training of the children
2.    Respect for children
3.    Attitudes towards children
4.    General problems of children
5.    Thinning reality by the mothers and fathers
6.    Children versus freedom
7.    Children’s development and ownership of nurturing
8.    Training of children on the basis of ethical spirit
9.    Children’s Well-trained mind 
10.    Moral and psycho-social training

"Our goal is to equip parents with practical skills and knowledge so they can confidently guide their children," said Dr Mahbub Hossain, the secretary of Siyyid Mustafa Rumi Trust. "Today's children are growing up in a world unlike any before, and this workshop gives parents the tools to provide healthy structure and support."

The event included presentations, hands-on activities, and Q&A sessions, allowing parents to engage with experts and fellow participants.
