Delaying polls will facilitate conspiracies by fallen dictator: Taqrique

BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman said on Saturday, "The more the  elections are delayed, the more conspiracies of the fallen fascist group will increase."

Speaking as the chief guest virtually at the district BNP conference held at Chuadanga Town Football Ground he said, "The dictator has been overthrown by people's uprising. Now the dictator is  conspiring with support her domestic and foreign masters."

Tarique said, 'The longer the election is delayed, the health facilities, the education system the problems of  farmers of this country, problems of the businessmen, problems of the judiciary and administration, created by the fallen  dictator will increase."

"It is only through an election that it will be possible to gradually solve the problems," said Tarique.

About the interim government he said that only if they are able to hold a fair election, genuine people will be elected, to work in the people's interests.

Tarique said, "Only elected representatives can solve all the problems." "The people might give you the responsibility to govern, but you must prepare yourselves for this role. To assume responsibility, you must make yourselves qualified for it," he said.

He said the BNP leaders and workers are choosing qualified leaders to lead the party's Chuadanga unit at the party council.

Tarique said, BNP leaders and workers at all levels must play a responsible role and understand the expectations of the people of their respective areas as soldiers of Shaheed Zia and Khaleda Zia.

"You must speak, behave and present yourselves in line with the expectations of people. If you can play this responsible role, the people of Bangladesh will entrust you with responsibility of running the country. Otherwise, they'll think twice about you," he told his party colleagues.

He said that the people despise Awami League for what it has done to the country and the people in last 15 years.

"But this does not mean that everything is now smooth. The road ahead is fraught with many dangers. The election I am talking about will be full of challenges, and if you want to overcome them, you will have to navigate through obstacles," he said.

Tarique said BNP leaders and workers must remember that the people are watching them. "You must understand the weight of the responsibility on your shoulders and know what to do and what not to do. If you grasp this, the people will gladly allow you to lead the country."

"Let us pledge that from this moment onwards, our actions every day will align with the expectations of the people, and we will prepare ourselves to implement the 31-point outline we have presented to the nation," he said.

The conference began with hoisting of the national flag at 10:40 am and singing the national anthem and the release of balloons.

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir inaugurated the event. After the leaders took their seats on the stage, the party anthem was performed by the members of Nationalist Social and Cultural Organisation (JASAS).

Fakhrul said, "Sheikh Mujib first introduced fascism in this country. Sheikh Mujib killed democracy. Awami League means theft and corruption. During  Awami League rule on the one hand, there was terrorism, and on the other hand, there were murders and enforced disappearances. A new sun has risen with the help of students and the pople. We must be enlightened by the light of that sun. The wishes of the people and the wishes of BNP are the same. We also want the leadership of the country to be in the hands of the youth. For this, we have to remain united.'

After nearly 14 years, the Chuadanga district unit held its council at the local Town Football Field, with overwhelming enthusiasm among party leaders and workers.

Speaking at the event, Fakhrul said BNP wants the election to be held as soon as possible, as plots are being hatched against the country and the people.

"We have no problem with the youth and students. Elections are essential for the country and the nation. We'll certainly make room for the youth, but they must move forward in the right direction, along with everyone."

Fakhrul said some young leaders are threatening not to hold elections without completing the reforms. "However, the BNP does not want conflict with the youth. BNP wants the election to save the country and protect the interests of its people."

He said there are many conspiracies being hatched by various quarters to destabilise the country and delay the election.

"But BNP wants to make it clear that the people can foil all conspiracies. Only an elected parliament can foil these conspiracies. BNP is stronger and more united than ever before," he said.

He said that Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, whom the people trusted blindly, first established fascism in Bangladesh between 1972 and 1975.

He said that Awami League is essentially a fascist party, not a democratic one. "There is no democracy in their very DNA," said Fakhrul.

He said Awami League grew into a fascist organisation using repression and torture against the people in last 15 years. "In the end, they fled in face of public wrath," he said.

Among others, BNP Vice Chairman Shamsuzzaman Dudu and Nitai Roy Chowdhury, Acting Organizing Secretary Anindya Islam, Joint Organising Secretary Jayanta Kumar Kundu, National Executive Committee Member Azizul Bari, Chuadanga District BNP Member Secretary Sharifuzzaman, Meherpur District BNP President Masud Arun and General Secretary Amjad Hossain, and Kushtia District BNP President Syed Mehedi Ahmed (Rumi) spoke.
