The newly-appointed Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) and four Election Commissioners (ECs) will take oath today Sunday) at Supreme Court's Judges' Lounge.
M Shafiqul Islam, Public Relations Officer of the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court, said, "The oath taking ceremony of the newly appointed CEC and other ECs will be held at the Supreme Court Judges' Lounge at 1:30pm on Sunday."
Chief Justice Syed Refaat Ahmed will administer the oath, he added.
Earlier on November 21, President Mohammed Shahabuddin appointed former secretary AMM Nasir Uddin as the new CEC and four election commissioners under section 118 (1) of the constitution.
Four ECs are former Additional Secretary M Anwarul Islam Sarker, retired District and Sessions Judge Abdur Rahmanel Masud, retired Joint Secretary Tahmida Ahmad and retired Brig Gen Abul Fazal Md Sanaullah.
The Cabinet Division on November 21 (Thursday) issued separate gazette notifications to this end.
The new EC has been constituted on the basis of the recommendation of the six-member search committee led by Appellate Division Justice Zubayer Rahman Chowdhury formed on October 29 in accordance with the Clause-3 of "The Chief Election Commissioner and Other Election Commissioners Appointment Act, 2022".
The search committee recommended two names of qualified individuals for each of the positions of the CEC and four commissioners. President Sahabuddin appointed CEC and ECs from the recommendation.
