A ninth grade female student reportedly committed suicide by hanging at Nakla upazila in Sherpur district on Friday.
The incident occurred on Friday night in Majidbari area of Talki Union.
Rumana Akter, 15, daughter of Osman Mia was a student of the local Noyabari High School.
According to family sources, Rumana had dinner with her family as usual on Friday evening and then went to her bedroom to sleep. The following morning, when she was late to wake up, family members went to check on her and discovered her body hanging from the ceiling of her room. They immediately contacted the police, who recovered the body from the scene.
Nakla Police Station officer-in-charge Habibur Rahman said, "The body has been recovered and brought to the police station. Initially, it appears to be a case of suicide but the reasons behind it remain unclear. Further investigation is ongoing."
