Four ‘commit suicide’ in Natore, Pirojpur, Gopalganj

Four people including two elderly men and a teenage girl have allegedly committed suicide in separate incidents in three districts - Natore, Pirojpur and Gopalganj, in two days.

BAGATIPARA, NATORE: A young man reportedly committed suicide in Bagatipara Upazila of the district on Friday.

The incident took place in Boro Chithlia Village under the upazila in the morning.

The deceased was identified as Jahid Hasan alias Juwel, 22, son of Rahim Uddin, a resident of the area.

Local sources said that Juwel got married with Seba Khatun, daughter of Abdus Samad of Chak Takinagar area in the upazila, about one and a half months back. After three to four days of the marriage, Seba Khatun ran away with her lover Ataur. 

Juwel had been so frustrated over this issue. Following this, he consumed poison on Friday morning after posting a facebook status accusing his wife and her lover for his death. 

Sensing the matter, the family members rescued him and rushed to Bagatipara Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty doctor referred the youth to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH) following the deterioration of his condition.

Later on, he died on the way to the RMCH.

Being informed, police recovered the body and sent it to Natore Sadar Hospital morgue for an autopsy. 

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Bagatipara Model Police Station (PS) Aminul Haque confirmed the incident.

INDURKANI, PIROJPUR: Two persons allegedly committed suicide in separate incidents in Indurkani Upazila of the district on Thursday.

An elderly man committed suicide out of huff with his sons in the upazila.

The deceased were identified as Syed Ali Akan, 104, son of late Higul Ali Akan, a resident of Kholpatua Village.

It was known that Syed Ali consumed poison at night out of huff with his sons in the house. 

Being informed, police recovered the body on Friday morning and sent it to Pirojpur Sadar Hospital morgue for an autopsy.

The deceased's daughter Khadiza Begum lodged a case with Indurkani PS in this regard.

Meanwhile, a madrasa girl committed suicide in another incident on the same day. 

Deceased Lamia Akhter, 15, was the daughter of Khalil Hawlader of Uttar Balipara Village in the upazila. She was a tenth grader at Chanserajia Women's Madrasa. 

It was known that she consumed poisonous tablet. Sensing the matter, the family members rescued her and took to Pirojpur Sadar Hospital first, and later, shifted to Barishal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital (SBMCH) for better treatment. 

Later on, Lamia died at the SBMCH while undergoing treatment and the family members took the body home.

Being informed, police recovered the body from the house and sent it to Pirojpur Sadar Hospital morgue for an autopsy.

Indurkani PS OC (Investigation) Helal Uddin confirmed the incidents.

GOPALGANJ: An elderly man, who consumed poison after being humiliated by his sons in Kotalipara Upazila of the district six days back, died at Gopalganj Sadar Hospital on Thursday noon.

The incident took place in Bagan Uttar Para area of the upazila.

Deceased Suren Gain, 80, son of Motilal Gain and father of two sons, was a resident of the village. 

It was known that Suren had an altercation with his two sons Khokon Gain, 45, and Pradip Gain, 40, over family issues on November 16 last. 

At one stage of the altercation, the two brothers beat up their father. Following this, Suren drank poison at night out of huff with his sons. 
  
Later on, he was rescued and taken to Kotalipara Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty doctor shifted to Gopalganj 250-bed General Hospital as his condition deteriorated further. 

On Thursday noon, Suren died at the hospital while undergoing treatment after six days.

Kotalipara PS OC Abul Kalam Azad confirmed the incident, saying that no complaint was lodged by the deceased's family members in this regard.

Legal action would be taken if any written complaint is received from the deceased's family, the OC added.
