A total of 33 people including five women have been arrested along with drugs in separate drives in 12 districts - Rajshahi, Chapainawabganj, Chattogram, Barishal, Kushtia, Bhola, Sirajganj, Satkhira, Jamalpur, Naogaon, Sherpur and Barguna, in recent times.
RAJSHAHI: Five people including two women were arrested along with drugs in separate drives in Godagari, Charghat and Bagmara upazilas of the district recently.
Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), in a drive, arrested two drug peddlers along with 220 grams of heroin from Godagari Upazila on Thursday morning. They were arrested at around 8:00 am from Chaighati Village in the upazila.
The arrested individuals are: Shahin Alam, 33, and Nazrul Islam, 23. Both of them are residents of Manikganj District.
RAB-5 confirmed the information through a press release on Thursday afternoon.
The press release said that a team of the elite force conducted a drive in Chaighati Village at night and arrested the duo. At that time, a motorcycle, 220 grams of heroin, and Tk 5,000 were also recovered from their possession.
A case was filed with Godagari Police Station (PS) under the Narcotics Control Act in this regard, the press release added.
On the other hand, police arrested an alleged top-listed drug peddler along with 45 kilograms of hemp from Paranpur area under Chharghat Upazila.
The arrested person is Yeasin Ali, 45, a resident of the area.
Acting on a tip-off, a police team conducted a sudden drive in the village and arrested him along with the drugs.
Later on, the arrested person along with the seized goods was handed over to Charghat PS after filing of a case under the Narcotics Control Act in this connection.
Meanwhile, two female drug dealers were caught by the villagers along with five kilograms of hemp in Bagmara Upazila of the district recently.
The apprehended women are: Sajeda Bibi, 50, wife of late Saiful Mir, and her daughter-in-law Fatema Bibi, 21, wife of Atikul Mir, residents of Birkutsa Village under Jogipara Union in the upazila.
It was known that Sajeda Bibi along with her family used to run drug business in the area for long. Following this, local people caught the duo along with five kilograms of hemp and Tk 4,700 in cash, and handed them over to police.
Sensing the matter, Sajeda's two sons Atikur Mir and Sohrab Mir managed to flee the scene.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Bagmara PS Tauhidur Rahman Tauhid confirmed the arrest, adding that the two women were sent to the jail following a court order after filing of a case under the Narcotics Control Act with the PS.
CHAPAINAWABGANJ: Members of RAB arrested an alleged drug peddler along with 492 bottles of phensidyl from Shibganj Upazila in the district on Wednesday night.
The arrested man is Habibur Rahman, 20, a resident of Biapalpara area under Paba Upazila in Rajshahi District.
RAB-5 sources said that acting on a tip-off, an operation team of the elite force from Chapainawabganj camp conducted a drive in Fatakpur area of the upazila at around 8:50 pm and arrested Habibur along with the phensidyl.
Later on, the elite force handed him over to the police of Shibganj PS after filing of a case under the Narcotics Control Act.
CHATTOGRAM: Joint forces arrested five robbers and recovered sharp weapons, drugs, cash in a drive at Boiler Colony slum of city's CRB's Falmondi area under under Kotwali PS on Wednesday morning.
During the drive, various types of sharp weapons, drugs, mobile phone sets and cash worth about Tk 15 lakh were recovered from the possession of the miscreants.
Acting on a tip-off, a team of joint forces raided CRB Boiler slum and Falmondi Colony area and arrested five miscreants at around 8:45 am.
The arrested people along with recovered weapons were handed over to the respective PS.
BARISHAL: Detective Branch (DB) of Police arrested a man along with 14 kilograms of hemp from Gaurnadi Upazila in the district on Tuesday night.
The arrested man is Shah Alam alias Alamgir, 40.
Acting on a tip-off, a team of the special force of police conducted a drive in the area and arrested the drug peddler from Illa area in front of Ma highway hotel. Then, police recovered the drug from a pickup van and seized the vehicle.
Gaurnadi PS OC Md Yunus Miah said that a case under the Narcotics Control Act has been filed with the PS in this regard.
DAULATPUR, KUSHTIA: Three people including a woman were arrested along with drugs in separate drives in Daulatpur Upazilas of the district recently.
DB Police arrested a man along with yaba tablets from the upazila on Tuesday morning.
The arrested person is Farid, 40, son of Delshad, a resident of Manikdiar Village in the upazila.
It was known that on information, a team of the DB Police conducted a drive in the house of Farid in the morning and detained him along with the drugs. After filing of a case under the Narcotics Control Act, the arrested was handed over to Daulatpur PS.
On the other hand, army personnel and members of Department of Narcotics Control (DNC), in a joint drive, arrested two people including a woman along with 380 pieces of tapentadol tablets from the upazila recently.
The arrested persons are: Saidur Rahman and Rahima Begum.
It was known that acting on a tip-off, a team of the joint forces led by Kushtia Army Camp Captain Mehedi Hasan conducted a drive in the house of one Jyoti in Allardarga Centre Para area of the upazila, and arrested the duo along with the tapentadol tablets and eight mobile phone sets.
After filing of a case under the Narcotics Control Act, the arrested two were handed over to Daulatpur PS.
CHAR FASSON, BHOLA: In a joint operation carried out by Bangladesh Navy and Police personnel, 1,595 pieces of yaba tablets and one kilogram of hemp were seized and two alleged drug dealers were arrested in Char Fasson Upazila of the district.
The arrested are: Liton Majhi, 37, and Siddiq Molla, 25, residents of Ewaazpur under Ward No. 4 in the upazila.
Additionally, two mobile phone sets, a motorcycle and Tk 45,100 in cash were also recovered from their residence.
During a press briefing, Lieutenant Commander Faruq detailed the operation that based on a secret information, the raid was conducted in Ewaazpur area and the suspects were found with drugs and cash concealed in various parts of their home.
The arrested individuals were handed over to Shashibhushan PS after initial legal procedures. Navy personnel from the Lalmohan Camp led by Lieutenant Commander M Omar Faruq were involved in the operation alongside local police.
Shashibhushan PS OC Tariq Hasan Rasel stated that the two drug dealers have multiple cases against them. Later on, the arrested were produced before the court, the OC added.
SIRAJGANJ: Members of RAB, in a drive, arrested two alleged drug dealers along with 10 kg of cannabis in the district recently.
The operation was conducted near the Soydabad roundabout area in Bangabandhu Bridge West PS.
RAB-12 Sirajganj Company Commander Lt Commander M Abul Hashem Sabuj confirmed the arrest and seizure in a press release.
The arrested persons are: Mir Hossain Raju, 35, from Montola Village in Faridganj Upazila of Chandpur District, and Soni Akter, 21, from Chokjalal Village in Badalgachhi Upazila of Naogaon.
Legal proceedings have been initiated against the arrested at the respective PS, the RAB official added.
SATKHIRA: DB Police arrested two drug smugglers along with 200 bottles of phensedyl from Pushpakati area of Debhata Upazila in the district recently.
The arrested persons are: Md Joynal Abedin Sardar, 45, son of Md Mosharraf Hossain Sardar, a resident of Alipur Chapardangi area under Sadar Upazila; and Md Zahidur Rahman Jewel, 33, son of Md Mosharraf Hossain Sardar, a resident of Vennapota Village in Debhata Upazila.
Satkhira District DB Police Sub-Inspector (SI) Md Anisur Rahman said that on information, a team of the force conducted a drive in Pushpakati area of Debhata Upazila. During the operation, two smugglers were caught red-handed along with 200 bottles of Indian phensidyl while buying and selling drugs on the paved road from Satkhira to Shyamnagar in front of Pushpakati Bismillah Bricks. The arrested are identified drug smugglers.
A case under the Narcotics Control Act was filed with Debhata PS against the arrested, the DB Police SI added.
JAMALPUR: Police arrested an alleged drug peddler along with huge hemp from a bus in Bakshiganj Upazila of the district recently.
The arrested man is Md Abul Hasem, 36, son of Md Golam Robbani, hails from Kurigram District.
Acting on a tip-off, a team of the law enforcers conducted a drive on a Dhaka-bound bus coming from Rowmari Upazila and recovered 3.8 kilograms of hemp after searching it, said Bakshiganj PS OC Khandorkar Shaker Ahmed.
A case under the Narcotics Control Act was filed with Bakshiganj PS in this regard, the OC added.
MANDA, NAOGAON: Police arrested two alleged drug peddlers along with 48 kilograms of hemp from Manda Upazila in the district recently.
The drive, conducted at Satihat area of the upazila, resulting in to arrest Md Rony, 26, of Namotila Village, and Md Asmaul Hossain, 38, of Binodpur Village under Shibganj Upazila in Chapainawabganj District.
Manda PS OC Mansur Rahman confirmed the matter in a press briefing.
The OC said that they were tipped-off that a huge consignment of drugs will be smuggled to Naogaon from Rajshahi. Following the information, a team of police set a check-post in Ferryghat area and challenged a suspected truck.
While searching the truck, police recovered 48 kilograms of hemp and seized the vehicle with 60 drums of palm oil.
Later on, the arrested were sent to the jail after filling of a case under the Narcotics Control Act with the PS, the OC added.
NALITABARI, SHERPUR: Four people were arrested along with drugs in separate drives in Nalitabari Upazila of the district recently.
Members of DNC and army personnel, in a joint drive, arrested two people along with 13.5 kilograms of hemp from the upazila.
The arrested persons are: Aynal Haque and Juwel Hossain.
District DNC sources said that acting on a tip-off, a team of the department conducted a drive in Panchgaon area of the upazila with the help of Bangladesh Army, and arrested the duo along with the hemp worth over Tk 4 lakh. After filing of a case under the Narcotics Control Act with Nalitabari PS, the arrested were sent to the jail following a court order.
District DNC Assistant Director Foisal Mahmud confirmed the matter.
On the other hand, police arrested two people along with 774 bottles of Indian liquor from Nalitabari Upazila in the district.
The arrested persons are: Ashraful Islam, 24, son of Shafiqul Islam of Purba Samashchura Village in Nalitabari Upazila, and Ali Hossain, 26, son of Ziaurul Haque, a resident of Chhankanda Village in Sadar Upazila of the district.
Police sources said that on information, a team of the law enforcers conducted a drive in Dawdhara Katabari area under Noyabeel Union of the upazila, and detained the duo from a microbus along with the liquor worth about Tk 10.79 lakh.
After filing of a case under the Narcotics Control Act with Nalitabari PS, the arrested persons were sent to the jail following a court order. Nalitabari PS OC Md Sanwar Hossain confirmed the matter.
TALTALI, BARGUNA: DB Police, in a drive, arrested four members of an inter-district robbers' gang along with 30 yaba tablets and two rounds of bullets of China rifle from Taltali Upazila of the district recently.
The arrested persons are: Mohsin, 32, son of late Joynal Abedin, a resident of Uttar Ghopkhali area under Amtali Upazila in the district, and his three associates Md Sagar, Ujjal and Md Yusuf.
At least seven cases were filed against them with different PSs.
It was known that on information, a team District DB Police conducted a drive in Helenchabaria School area of the upazila, and detained the four robbers along with 30 yaba tablets and two rounds of bullets of China rifle.
After filing of a case under the Narcotics Control Act with Taltali PS, the arrested were handed over to the police.
Barguna District DB Police OC Bashir Al confirmed the matter.
