Newly-appointed Chief Election Commissioner AMM Nassir Uddin on Thursday said, "We will set an example of a free, fair and credible election."

He told the Daily Observer, "People could not vote in 2014, 2018 and 2024 elections. For these elections, people have gone missing and murdered. How many thousands of people were injured and crippled in the last July-August movement while trying to get their rights to vote."

Nassir said, "Students and people of the country have sacrificed life to revive people's right to vote. We will work to fulfill their expectations by facing new challenges."

Nassir said the Election Commission (EC) will play a strong role of a referee in the election field.

He said, "Every political party wants a free and fair election. To ensure that we will find out and solve problems according to the EC reform committee. We will work together for the nation."

Nassir said, "It is our big challenge to update the voters list. We will start our activities as soon as EC reform committee submits their report."

Nassir did not comment on the participation of Awami League in the upcoming general elections.

About starting responsibility Nassir Uddin said first we have to take oath and then we can start our job. I think from next week we will take over the responsibility.

Along with four election commissioners former secretary AMM Md Nasir Uddin was appointed the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) of the Bangladesh Election Commission.
