Different courts in three days sentenced six people to life-term imprisonment in separate cases in two districts - Narail and Natore.
DAULATPUR, KUSHTIA: A court in the district on Wednesday sentenced three people to death for killing a woman and her son during a robbery in Daulatpur Upazila in 2019.
Kushtia Additional District and Session Judge Sohani Pushon handed down the verdict in presence of the accused.
The condemned convicts are: Hanif Molla, son of Sekendar Molla, hails from Joarderpara area; and Ali Akber, son of Imran Hossain, and Lal Chan Mandal son of late Shahidul Islam, residents of Sonaikandi Village in Daulatpur Upazila.
The court also fined the convicts Tk 50,000, and in default of the payment, they have to suffer one more year in the jail.
Under another section in the case, the court also sentenced them life-term imprisonment and fined the trio Tk 50,000 each.
Additional Public Prosecutor (APP) of the court Khadimul Islam confirmed the matter.
According to the prosecution, the convicts strangulated Sanwara Begum, 50, and her son Raj, 9, to death during a robbery in Sonaikandi Village of Daulatpur Upazila in the district at the night of November 17, 2019.
In connection, Sanwara's daughter filed a case with Daulatpur Police Station (PS) accusing a few unnamed people.
After investigation, police submitted the charge-sheet to the court on December 27 of that year.
Following this, the court pronounced the verdict on Wednesday after examining the case records and taking depositions of the witnesses.
NARAIL: A court in the district on Wednesday sentenced five persons including a woman to life-term imprisonment for killing a minor boy in Lohagara Upazila in 2015.
Narail Additional District and Sessions Judge Md Shajahan Ali handed down the verdict.
The condemned convicts are: Shimul Mollik, 44, Syed Liton, 41, Jahidur Rahman Mithu, 44, Syed Jahangir, 69, and Shamima Begum, 69. All of them are residents of Kalachandpur Village in Lohagara Upazila.
The court also fined them Tk 10,000 each.
APP of the court Kazi Ziaur Rahman confirmed the matter.
According to the prosecution, on September 30, 2015, police recovered the body of a minor boy, named Shahin Fakir, from a pond in Kalachandpur Village in Lohagara Upazila.
The boy went missing one week back before got murdered. In this regard, Shahin's uncle filed a murder case accusing five people with Lohagara PS.
After investigation, police submitted the charge-sheet to the court against the five convicts.
Following this, the court pronounced the verdict on Wednesday after examining the case records and taking depositions of the witnesses.
NATORE: A court in the district on Monday sentenced a private tutor to life-term imprisonment for violating a minor student in 2018.
Natore District Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal Judge Muhammad Abdur Rahim handed down the verdict in presence of the accused.
The condemned convict is Hazrat Ali, a resident of Bagrom area in Sadar Upazila of the district.
The court also fined him Tk 50,000.
PP of Natore District and Sessions Judge Court Abdul Kader Mia confirmed the matter.
According to the prosecution, on July 8 in 2018, the victim had gone to school for taking private tuition. After dismissing the other students, Hazrat Ali held the child, claiming that he would review some questions with her. During this time, he violated the girl and then, threatened her for life if she disclosed the matter to anyone.
The child's family became aware of the situation on July 12 when her health deteriorated.
Subsequently, the victim's father filed a case against Hazrat Ali with Natore Sadar PS.
Later on, Hazrat Ali was arrested and an investigation was conducted.
After investigation, police submitted the charge-sheet to the court on July 31, 2018.
Following this, the tribunal judge pronounced the verdict on Monday after examining the case records and taking depositions of the witnesses.
