The Jahangirnagar University (JU) administration has suspended four individuals, including a deputy registrar, over the death of a marketing department student in an accident by a battery-run three-wheeler on campus on November 19 (Tuesday).
An office order issued to this end around 1AM on Wednesday. They were also suspended on charges of negligence in their duties, it reads.
The four other suspended officials are -- deputy registrar and head of the estate office Abdur Rahman Babul, security officer Md Rasel Mia, assistant supervisor Abdus Salam, and security guard Mansur Rahman Pramanik, reads the order.
Afsana Karim Rachi, a student of the 53rd batch of the Marketing Department at the university, was severly injured after being hit by a battery-run rickshaw near the Shaheed Minar adjacent to the New Arts Building of the university on November 19 evening.
She was taken to the university medical centre and later shifted to Enam Medical College Hospital in Savar, where the duty doctor declared her dead.
Abdur Rahman Babul, son of Abdus Samad of Gakulnagar area of ward No. 5 of Pathalia union. He is also the former president of Dhaka district unit Swechasebak Dal.
There are a number of allegations against him, including issuing licenses for plying rickshaw on the campus in exchange of money, cutting trees in the name of cleaning the campus premises.
After the fall of autocratic Awami League government, he is reportedly using the name BNP for these misdeeds.
Meanwhile, after repeated attempt to contract Babul, he was unavailable for comment in this connection.
