Baharul Alam made IGP, Sajjat Ali DMP chief

Retired Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police Baharul Alam has been appointed as new Inspector General of Police (IGP) of the country while retired Additional Inspector General (DIG) of Police Sheikh Md Sajjat Ali has been made Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) on contract basis.

The Public Administra-tion Ministry on Wednesday issued separate notifications appointing them as new IGP and DMP Commissioner for next two years after their joining in the service.

According to the conditions of the contracts, Baharul Alam and Sajjat Ali will have to leave all relations with other organizations or businesses and the conditions of their appointments would be determined with the contracts to be signed between the two officials and the government.

Baharul Alam will replace incumbent IGP Md Moynul Islam while Sajjat Ali will replace DMP Commissioner Mainul Hasan.

IGP Md Moynul Islam, who was appointed IGP on August 6, has completed his service age of 59 on Wednesday.

However, the Home Ministry has not yet given any decision about outgoing DMP Commissioner Mainul Hasan, who was made DMP commissioner on August 7. 

New IGP Baharul Alam was chief of Special Branch (SB) of Police before his retirement in 2020.
