The interim government's decision to include valour stories of July martyrs Abu Sayeed and Mir Mughda in textbooks while excluding the courageous story of martyr Wasim Akram, a Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) leader of Chattogram College, has been criticised as discriminatory by JCD central General Secretary Nasir Uddin Nasir.
He alleged that Wasim Akram's exclusion is due to his affiliation with JCD and loyalty to BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman.
Nasir made these remarks during a discussion on student politics with students of Govt Rajendra College and Govt Yasin College in Faridpur on Tuesday.
"Abu Sayeed, Wasim, and Mughda became icons of the July-August mass uprising through their sacrifices, inspiring thousand others. Yet, the interim government neglects martyr Wasim Akram despite being the second martyr during the uprising," said Nasir.
He noted that Wasim's name is not included in textbooks or official commemorations, solely because he was a JCD leader.
Earlier, Nasir sought students' views on the future of student politics. They shared concerns about the terror-driven practices of the past led by Chhatra League members.
