BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has said Awami League is a political party. People will determine whether they (Awami League) will be able to do politics or not.
He was speaking at educational items and tin distribution function among the flood-affected students and people at Khaleda Zia's paternal home at Fulgazi in Feni district on Wednesday (November 20).
Mirza Fakhrul said the BNP cannot obstruct Awami League. BNP is not giving Awami League scope of doing politics. Wrong explanation has been given on the matter. But, all including Sheikh Hasina who had perpetrated genocide must have to be brought to justice.
The BNP Secretary General said the Sheikh Hasina government was ousted through the people's movement. The present interim government has done many things in three months after ascending to power.
The BNP leader said: "We have never said that we want to bring someone else to the election. The matter did not appear in the mass media appropriately."
He also expressed the hope that the interim government would hold a free, fair and impartial election as soon as possible "cleaning all the rubbishes."
Praising the role of Begum Khaleda Zia in establishing democracy, he said Khaleda Zia has struggled for a long time for the country's people and democracy. The previous government arrested her in false cases. She was kept confined in a small and dampened room of Dhaka Central Jail. She is very sick now and will be sent to England for medical treatment soon. "Today, I have come at your area to convey Begum Zia's love and affection for all of you," he said.
The function was attended by BNP Chairperson's adviser freedom fighter Abdus Salam, Prof Zainal Abedin, central joint secretary general Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Anny, Feni district BNP convener Sheikh Farid Bahar, member secretary Alal Uddin, Fulgazi Upazila BNP convener Abul Hossain, Dhaka City South BNP convener Rafiqul Alam Majnu, BNP's Chittagong Division organizing secretary Mahbuber Rahman Shamim, Khaleda Zia's adviser Zainal Abedin and former lawmaker Rahena Akter.
It was presided over by Fulgazi Upazila BNP convener Fakhrul Alam Shopon.
