Former chief of the Special Branch (SB) of Police Baharul Alam has been appointed as the 33rd IGP.
He served as the police liaison officer at the Peacekeeping Department of the United Nations Headquarters from 2009 to 2013.
He also served as Senior Police Adviser at the UN Peacekeeping Mission in Afghanistan in 2015.
Earlier, Baharul Alam served in Croatia, Serbia, Kosovo and Sierra Leone. Deprived of promotions twice, Baharul Alam was sent on retirement in 2020.
Besides, Sheikh Sazzad Ali was appointed to the post of DMP Commissioner.
Earlier, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Moinul Hasan and Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Md Mayeenul Hasan were removed from their respective positions.
The Ministry of Home Affairs informed it through a circular on Wednesday afternoon.
