BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman said on Mobday, it is the responsibility of people from all walks of life to extend helping hands to those affected during the recent student-led mass movement.
Speaking virtually at a wheelchair distribution programme at National Press Club he said: "I call upon every person in society to come forward to help the people, according to their ability, affected during the movement."
He said, "If BNP can form government with the support of the people in future, it will propose to name the state institutions after the martyrs of the July-August uprising."
Tarique said, "I don't know how much I can support those who have been affected. However, we will try to help the injured to recover."
He said, we are giving wheelchairs to some of the injured. But I believe that the way science is progressing, in the future these injured people will be able to walk again.
He said that not only those injured in the July-August movement, but those who were born with disabilities will get government support if BNP comes to power.
BNP will extend support the disabled people to make them self-reliant, he said.
Amra BNP Paribar arranged the programme at National Press Club to distribute wheelchairs among 10 people maimed during the recent student movement against Sheikh Hasina's autocratic regime.
BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi said the interim government was formed with the support of the BNP and others who had carried out movement to oust the Sheikh Hasina regime. "We are still supporting this government."
Rizvi said the chief adviser's remarks during an interview with an international media outlet about the tenure of the government for four years to carry out reforms are a matter of concern.
He said politicians have led state reforms for ages and will carry out the necessary reforms, while an interim government can only give some suggestions.
Rizvi said the government may try to prolong its stay power in the name of reforms due to some complications or any evil plan. "It is a matter of concern for us. The people want to know why four years will be necessary for the reforms and holding an election."
If BNP forms government with public support, different institutions and establishments across Bangladesh will be named after martyrs of the uprising, he said.
