A Jubo League activist was reportedly shot to death by miscreants at Ishwardi upazila in Pabna district on Monday.
The incident took place around 6:45 am in front of Patwari Market adjacent to Rooppur intersection on the Pabna-Kushtia highway.
The dead Jubo League activist Manik, 36, son of Yunus Ali, was a resident of Rooppur village under Pakshi union in the upazila.
According to eyewitnesses, Manik had come home on bail three-four days ago from jail in a murder case. On Monday (November 18), he was standing in front of his house and talking. At that time, eight to 10 unknown people on several motorcycles came there and fired four shots at Manik. When Manik fell on ground, they started stabbing him with sharp knives.
When local people came forward, they quickly fled. Manik died on the spot.
Ishwardi Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Shahidul Islam Shahid said it seemed that he was killed due to a previous enmity. On information, police recovered the body and sent it to the Pabna Medical College Hospital morgue for an autopsy.
