NARSINGDI: A man was allegedly beaten to death on suspicion of theft in Monohardi Upazila of the district on Saturday.

The incident occurred in Kocharchar Village under Daulatpur Union of the upazila at night.

The deceased was identified as Fazlur Rahman, 50, son of late Moktar Uddin of Montola Village under Khidirpur Union.

Police and locals said that villagers caught Fazlur Rahman while he was allegedly attempting to steal an auto-rickshaw from the house of Amir Hossain.

They then beat him up, leaving him dead on the spot. Following this, his body was reportedly dumped near a pond belonging to Khoka Mia in a neighbouring village.

Family members of Fazlur Rahman claim that he had never been involved in theft. They stated that he had returned from working abroad and had been mentally unstable for some time.

They expressed confusion over the motive behind his killing, as he had no known enemies. They plan to file a formal complaint, hoping that the investigation will clarify the circumstances of his death.

Being informed, police recovered the body and sent it to Narsingdi Sadar Hospital morgue for an autopsy.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Monohardi Police Station (PS) Jewel Hasan confirmed the incident, adding that police are looking into the case to uncover further details.

PATIYA, CHATTOGRAM: A youth was stabbed to death allegedly by his uncle in Patiya Upazila of the district over trivial matter on Saturday night.

The incident took place in Ward No. 9 Hazi Para area under Haidgaon Union of the upazila at around 11 pm.

The accused is Jalal Uddin, 45, of the same area.

Nasir Mia, another uncle of Rasel, said that after the death of Rasel's father in his childhood, his mother got married elsewhere. His grandparents raised him. Jalal Uddin lives in a rented house in Chattogram. At night, he came to the village home and entered the room to find one of his mattresses being used by his nephew. At one point, he got angry with his nephew and hit his throat with a sharp knife, he said.

Later on, injured Rasel was rushed to Patiya Hospital, where the on-duty doctor declared him dead.

Being informed, police recovered the body and sent it to Chattogram Medical College Hospital morgue for an autopsy.

The clash, which also left his father Latif Madbar, 75, and younger brother Suman Madbar, 35, injured, occurred on Friday afternoon in the village.

The confrontation quickly turned violent, and Borhan and others including Abu Salam Madbar, Jalil Madbar, Rajon Madbar and Monu Madbar, allegedly attacked on Nazrul with sharp weapons.

According to local and the deceased's family sources, on November 11, Hasanur was accused of stealing an IPS battery from the home of Yunus Ali in Ward No. 6. The battery was allegedly found on Hasanur's auto-rickshaw, prompting Yunus Ali's sons and others to assault him. When Hasanur's wife Bilkis Begum attempted to intervene, she was also beaten.

Hasanur was treated at a local private hospital and taken home but his condition worsened. Later on, he succumbed to his injuries on Saturday noon.

Following Hasanur's death, his relatives and neighbours protested outside Yunus Ali's house and his sons' businesses. The shops were quickly shut down and the accused left the scene.
