A woman and a teenage boy allegedly committed suicide in separate incidents in two districts - Bogura and Rajbari, recently.
BOGURA: A woman reportedly committed suicide after killing her four-year-old daughter in Kahalu Upazila of the district.
The incident took place in Depoil Purbapara area under Birkedar Union of the upazila on Thursday noon.
The deceased were identified as Julekha Begum, 24, wife of Abdul Momin, a resident of the area, and their daughter Mushfiqa Khatun, 4.
Quoting locals, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kahalu Police Station (PS) Md Shahinuzzaman said that Julekha's husband Abdul Momin is an auto-van driver by profession.
At around 9 am, he along with his auto-van went out of the house. Her father-in-law Abu Bakar went to a local mosque at around 12 pm for performing Johr prayers.
After returning home, when he called Julekha for lunch found that the door of Julekha's room was locked from inside.
Later on, he saw the bodies of Julekha hanging with a scarf from the ceiling of the room and Mushfiza lying on the bed through the window. He then informed the matter to police.
Being informed, police recovered the bodies and sent those to Bogura Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsies.
The law enforcers also found a suicide note beside Julekha's body which states, "no one is responsible for my death."
Police assumed that Julekha might have committed suicide after strangling her daughter.
However, the law enforcers are investigating the matter, the OC added.
RAJBARI: A teenage boy reportedly committed suicide by consuming poison in front of his lover's house at Chandani in Sadar Upazila of the district on Thursday after hearing about her impending marriage to another person.
The deceased was identified as Mahfuz Sarder, 18, son of Md Majed Sarder of Baraijhuri Village. He was a twelfth grader at Dr Abul Hossain College in Rajbari.
According to local sources, Mahfuz had been in a romantic relationship with a first-year student from Rajbari Women's College, who lives in Dhawapara of the same union and belonged to the Hindu community.
The girl's family opposed the relationship and arranged her marriage elsewhere. Hearing this, Mahfuz reportedly went to her house a few days back and consumed poison in a state of despair.
He was then rescued and admitted to Faridpur Medical College Hospital, where he died on Thursday while undergoing treatment.
