142 detained on different charges in nine districts

A total of 142 people have been detained on different charges in separate drives in nine districts - Jashore, Rajshahi, Kushtia, Natore, Khulna, Bandarban, Sylhet, Moulvibazar and Manikganj, in recent times.  
JASHORE: Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) apprehended six Bangladeshi nationals at Dhannyakhola Border Outpost (BOP) for attempting to cross the border into India illegally. 
The arrests were made on Wednesday, confirmed Lieutenant Colonel Saifullah Siddiqui, the commanding officer of Jessore Battalion-49 BGB.
According to Lt Col Saifullah Siddiqui, a special operation was conducted based on a tip-off under the leadership of Subedar Abdul Gani from Dhannyakhola BOP. Around noon on Wednesday, the patrol team set up a surveillance point about 100 yards from the main pillar 26 within Bangladesh in Purba Para area of Dhannyakhola Village.
After some time, the patrol team observed six individuals including two women and a child making their way from Bangladesh toward the Indian border. As the group came closer, the patrol team pursued and successfully detained them. Upon questioning, the detainees admitted to being Bangladeshi nationals attempting to cross the border illegally in search of work opportunities in India.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Anand Sutradhar, 53, hails from Matain Village under Delduar in Tangail, Prosenjit Sutradhar, 28, from the same village; Bhanu Rani, 46, wife of Anand Sutradhar, Preeti Sutradhar, 20, wife of Prosenjit Sutradhar, Abdul Jabbar, 29, from Dhunda Village in Narail; and Rina Khatun, 45, wife of Jahangir Sheikh, from Boro Kalin Village in Sharsha Upazila of Jashore.
The detainees have been handed over to Benapole Port Police Station (PS), where legal action under the Illegal Entry Act has been initiated.
RAJSHAHI: A total of 28 people were arrested on different charges in separate drives in the district recently.
An alleged terrorist Bappy Chowdhury alias killer Rony was arrested in the capital for attacking and shooting students during the anti-discrimination student movement in Rajshahi City.
On a tip-off, members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested Rony from Bashundhara residential area last night, RAB sources said on Wednesday.
He was accused of attacking and shooting students during the anti-discrimination student movement in Alupatti area on August 5 in the city, where two students were killed and many others injured.
Rony, a resident of Biharipara area in the city, is the president of Ward No. 4 of Juba League.
RAB sources said, they arrested Rony after using information and communication technologies.
Meanwhile, police arrested the personal assistant (PA) of Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC) Mayor AHM Khairuzzaman Liton and 23 others.
The PA is Bipul Kumar Sarkar.
Media wing of Rajshahi District and Metropolitan Police confirmed the matter.
Among the arrestees, 14 were held from different areas of the metropolitan and 10 other were arrested from different parts of the district.
A press release of the RMP media wing said that Bipul, a permanent official of RCC, was held from his Raninagor residence of the city. He had worked as the personal assistant of RCC mayor Liton.
Besides, police arrested ward No. 7 unit Awami League (AL) president Shariful Islam and leader of the same ward Mokthter Hossain.
After interrogation, necessary legal action has been taken against the arrestees.
They all were sent to jail after being produced before the court.
Earlier, three people including the upazila president of the banned organization Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) were arrested in connection with a case filed over sabotage in Durgapur of the district.
The arrested are: Shakil Khan, 30, president of the Durgapur Upazila BCL unit; Moazzam, 40, a resident of Polashbari Village; and Jomshed Ali, 38, a resident of the Palibazar area in the upazila.
They were arrested at various locations within the upazila, said Nurul Huda, officer-in-charge (OC) of Durgapur PS.
The arrested were sent to jail through the court, the police official added.
DAULATPUR, KUSHTIA: Police arrested two youths along with a firearm and ammunition from Daulatpur Upazila in the district recently.
The arrested are: Sumon Hossain, and Chhoton Ali, 22, residents of Char Ikuri Village under Ramkrishnapur Union in the upazila.
Police said that the law enforcers arrested them along with a one-shooter gun and 13 rounds of bullets from Hosenabad Koipal area.
Daulatpur PS OC Sheikh Abdul Awal Kabir confirmed the matter, adding that a case under the Arms Act was filed in this regard.
NATORE: A total of 11 people were detained on different charges in separate drives in the district recently. 
Five woman snatchers were held at the time of snatching a gold chain from a woman at Bonpara Bazar of Baraigram Upazila in the district on Tuesday. 
Abdur Razzak, a member of Ansar and VDP arrested them with the help of local people, and later on he was handed over to the local police station.
Ansar Abdur Razzak informed that he was on duty at Bonpara Bazar to control traffic on Tuesday at 10 am. At that time, a woman shouted saying that someone snatched her golden chain from her neck. 
Hearing this, Abdur Razzak ran after the snatchers, and at last he caught them with the help of local people.  
After this, the gold chain was recovered from them, and the offenders were handed over to the police station (PS). 
Baraigram PS OC Sirajula Islam confirmed the news.  
Meanwhile, police arrested six AL leaders and activists in a case filed over an attack on BNP activists during an election rally before the 2018 national election in Singra Upazila of the district.
The arrested are Md Selim Reza Sentu, general secretary of Singra Municipality Sramik League; Juba League leader Md Abu Bakr Siddique; former BCL leader Rakibul Alam; Krishak League leader Md Shamsul Islam; Juba League leader Md Mizanur Rahman; and AL activist Md Al Masum.
Singra PS OC Asmaul Haque said that all the arrested men are accused in two cases filed in September over the incident in 2018.
They were produced before the court, the OC added.
KHULNA: Four people were arrested on different charges in separate drives in the district recently. 
Joint forces in separate drives have arrested a man and seized huge quantities of firearms and ammunition during the last 24 hours.
A team of the joint forces including Navy and Police went on an operation early Tuesday in Gazirhat Bazaar area under Dighalia Upazila and arrested Md Badsha Gazi.
Later on, the team seized a country-made shooter gun, one round bullet and one kilogram of gunpowder after searching his residence.
The arrested was handed over to Dighalia PS along with the arms and ammunition.
In another drive, a joint forces team comprising army and police seized one rifle, 13 round of live bullets of rifle, eight pieces of empty cartridges, one revolver, 20 round of revolver bullets, arms related materials, nine passports and 250 Indian currencies in an abandoned condition from the fourth floor of Sheikh Harunur Rashid Community Centre and Children Park in Rupsha Strand Road area.
The law enforcement agency's ongoing special drive will be continuing to arrest criminals.
Earlier, Bangladesh Coast Guard (BCG) of Mongla Outpost arrested an alleged arms mechanic from Dacope Upazila.
The arrested man is Ismail Hossain, 24, son of Abdul Aziz of Gazipur District. They also seized a pipe gun from his possession, West Zone BCG Lieutenant Dewan Md Asif confirmed.
On information, a BCG team conducted an operation in Tagore Bari Kheyaghat area under Dacope Upazila, adjacent to the Sundarban.
The law enforcers arrested Ismail after chasing while he was trying to flee from there. Later, they seized a country-made pipe gun from him.
Lieutenant Asif said that two cases were filed against him with Rampal PS in Bagerhat.
The arrested was handed over to Dacope PS for taking legal action, the BCG official added.
On the other hand, a former union parishad (UP) chairman in the district was arrested with 170 pieces of contraband yaba tablets and lethal weapons.
The arrestee was Bulbul Ahmed, former Sachiadah UP chairman under Terokhada Upazila of the district.
An official press release of said that a team of joint forces comprising members navy and police conducted a drive at Sachiadah Bazar and arrested the listed drug peddler and former UP chairman Bulbul from a residence. 
They also seized 170 pieces of contraband yaba tablets, lock cutting machine, motorcycle, two mobile phones and local weapons after searching his residence.
Babul and the seized products were handed over to Terokhada PS. Two separate cases were filed against him with the PS in this connection, the press release added.
BANDARBAN: Law enforcers have detained 81 Rohingya individuals while attempting to trespass into Bangladesh through Alikadam-Myanmar border in Bandarban. 
The detention took place on Monday morning in various areas of Kurukpata Union's Poa Muhuri border. Among the detained, there are 31 children and 50 adult men and women.
Local sources reported that due to escalating conflict in Myanmar's Rakhine state, security measures have been tightened along the Naikhongchhari border to prevent illegal crossings. Despite these efforts, human trafficking rings have been facilitating the movement of Rohingyas through the remote Kurukpata border in exchange of huge money. 
Acting on a tip-off, security forces conducted operations in several hill regions, capturing the migrants while their traffickers remained elusive.
A Rohingya man named Md. Shafi Ullah disclosed that traffickers had charged them Tk 8, 00,000 and guided them through various border points in the darkness. Alikadam PS OC Mirza Zahid Uddin confirmed the detention. 
SYLHET: Police have detained six individuals for questioning in relation to the murder of six-year-old Muntaha Akter Zerin from Kanaighat Upazila of the district recently. 
Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) in Sylhet Rafiq Islam confirmed the detention.
The detained persons are: Islam Uddin, Nizam Uddin, Nazma Begum, former tutor of the deceased, Shamima Begum alias Marzia, and her mother Alifjan Begum, along with her grandmother Kutubjan Begum. All of them are residents of Kanaighat and neighbours of the deceased.
Earlier, on the morning of November 3, Muntaha, daughter of Shamim Ahmed from Bir Dal Village under Kanaighat Sadar Union, went missing after returning home from a  a religious gathering and went out to play with other children near their house. Her family searched for her throughout the evening but could not find her. 
Early the following morning, Muntaha's body was discovered in a canal near her home. Police initially detained three women for questioning.
ASP Rafiq Islam said, "Muntaha's father reported her missing to the police on November 3, filing a general diary. The case escalated when he later filed a formal complaint, prompting an investigation." 
During the investigation, police interrogated Muntaha's former tutor, Shamima Begum Marzia, who eventually confessed to her involvement in the crime. According to her statement, the murder occurred on the evening of November 3 when Muntaha was strangled and suffocated with a sack in their house.
Police continue to investigate the case with further legal actions expected as the situation develops, the ASP added.
KULAURA, MOULVIBAZAR: Police arrested three people including a UP chairman from Joychandi Union area under Kulaura Upazila in the district recently.
The arrested men are: Abdur Rab Mahbub, chairman of Joychandi UP; and AL leaders Delwar Hossain Lebu and Lokman Mia.
Kulaura PS OC Md Golam Afsar said that on information, a team of the law enforcers conducted a drive in Joychandi Union area of the upazila, and detained the trio.
Later on, the arrested people have been sent to the jail following a court order, the OC added.
MANIKGANJ: Police have arrested a local leader of BCL in the district in a case field over setting fire on BNP office during recent mass uprising.
The arrested person is Samiur Rahman Kampan, organizing secretary of the district unit of the BCL.
Manikganj Sadar PS OC SM Amanulla acknowledged the matter and said that acting on tip-off, a team of the law enforcers conducted a drive in Pirganj Upazila of Rangpur District recently.
Sensing the presence of the law enforcers, Samiur fell from a roof top of the building while he was trying to flee the scene and got injured. 
Samiur was then admitted to the Rangpur Sadar Hospital for treatment. He will be brought back to Manikganj after his treatment is completed. 
Earlier, on September 25 last, Md Murad Hossain, a convener of municipality unit of Swechasebak Dal in Manikganj, filed a case with the Sadar PS against 91 named and 150 unnamed people for setting fire on BNP office during the uprising.
