A youth reportedly committed suicide by consuming poison in front of his lover's house at Chandani area in Rajbari Sadar upazila, upon hearing about her impending marriage to another person.
The deceased was identified as Mahfuz Sardar, 18, son of Md. Majed Sardar and a resident of Baraijhuri village. He was a second-year intermediate student at Dr. Abul Hossain College in Rajbari.
The incident was confirmed by Nayeb Ali, a member of Chandani Union Parishad, who stated that Mahfuz passed away on Thursday while undergoing treatment at Faridpur Hospital.
According to local sources, Mahfuz had been in a romantic relationship with a first-year student from Rajbari Women's College, who lived in Dhawapara of the same union and belonged to the Hindu community.
The girl's family opposed the relationship and arranged her marriage elsewhere. Upon learning this, Mahfuz reportedly went to her house and consumed poison in a state of despair.
Nayeb Ali confirmed, "A few days ago, Mahfuz drank poison after learning about his girlfriend's arranged marriage. He was admitted to Faridpur Hospital but succumbed to his injuries while under treatment."
