A clash broke out in Sunamganj on Thursday between two groups of students following the formation of a new committee of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement.
The incident, which occurred at the District Shilpakala Academy, left at least five people injured.
The incident took place during an event to introduce the new committee and facilitate a discussion.
Students from various upazilas of Sunamganj had gathered at the venue when a group of disgruntled students, who had been excluded from the new committee, attacked with local weapons. This led to a violent confrontation between the two sides.
Tanveer, one of the excluded students, expressed frustration, stating that the committee had been formed without considering the main students, which he found unfortunate.
Imon Ahmed, Convener of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement in Sunamganj, condemned the attack and urged those with complaints to contact the central leadership rather than resorting to violence.
Sunamganj Sadar Police Officer-in-Charge Nazmul Haque confirmed that the clash was due to disagreements over the committee and that the situation was brought under control with the intervention of police and military forces.
