A man was killed after being attacked by his brother-in-law at Nalitabari upazila in Sherpur district.

The assault occurred on Thursday in Kalinagar village near the municipal town.

However, police have detained the suspect, Yunus Ali, on early Friday.

The victim, Mojibor Rahman alias Moyez Uddin, 65, a resident of Aynatali village in the Rupnarayan Kura union, had been living with his family in his in-laws' house in Kalinagar since his marriage.

According to police sources, a dispute erupted between Mojibor and his brother-in-law, Yunus Ali, over the construction of a bamboo fence between their houses. When Mojibor objected to the fence, an argument ensued, escalating into violence. In a fit of rage, Yunus struck Mojibor on the head with an iron rod, identified as a rickshaw axle.

Critically injured, Mojibor was first taken to Nalitabari Upazila Health Complex. Given the severity of his condition, doctors referred him to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital but he succumbed to his injuries on the way.

The police were informed later that night and recovered Mojibor's body from his residence. Acting on a tip-off, they arrested Yunus Ali from a neighboring house early Friday morning.

The victim's son, Jobed Ali, has since filed a case against Yunus at Nalitabari Police Station.

Nalitabari Police Station officer-in-charge Sanowar Hossain confirmed the incident, stating that the body has been sent to Sherpur District Hospital morgue for an autopsy.

The OC added that the suspect has been detained and sent to jail following a court appearance.
