33 nabbed with drugs in 15 districts

A total of 33 people including six women have been arrested along with drugs in separate drives in 15 districts - Brahmanbaria, Moulvibazar, Mymensingh, Dhaka, Bagerhat, Madaripur, Kushtia, Rajbari, Cumilla, Dinajpur, Rangpur, Netrakona, Kurigram, Narayanganj and Gazipur, in recent times. 

BIJOYNAGAR, BRAHMANBARIA: Police arrested two female drug dealers along with marijuana from Bijoynagar Upazila in the district on Friday morning.

The arrested persons are: Rehena Begum Prakash Josna, 41, and Fatema, 40, residents of Kashinagar (Bagan Bari) under Bijoynagar Upazila.

Police sources said that acting on a tip-off, a team of the law enforcers conducted a drive in front of the shop of one Shahjahan Mia at Kashinagar Singarbil at around 7 am, and arrested them. At that time, eight kilograms of marijuana was also recovered from their possession.

A case under the Narcotics Control Act was filed with Bijoynagar Police Station (PS) in this regard.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Bijoynagar PS Roshan Ali confirmed the matter.

KULAURA, MOULVIBAZAR: Three people were detained along with drugs in separate drives in Kulaura Upazila of the district recently.

Joint forces, in a drive, have arrested a drug peddler along with 704 pieces of yaba tablets from the upazila on Wednesday night. 

The arrested man is Bisnu Pasi, 45, a resident of Notun Tila area under Kulaura Sadar Union in the upazila.

Acting on a tip-off, a team of police conducted a drive in Notun Tela area at around 10 pm and arrested the man with the drugs, said Kulaura PS OC Md Golam Afsar. 

After filing of a case under the Narcotics Control Act with Kulaura PS, the arrested was sent to the jail following a court on Thursday morning, the OC added.

Meanwhile, members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) arrested two brothers along with 30 yaba tablets from Amtali Bazar area under Sharifpur Union in the upazila recently. 

The arrested men are: Ataur Rahman, 35, and Saifur Rahman, 25, sons of Mahbubur Rahman, residents of Khidirpur Village in the upazila. 

It was known that a team of BGB conducted a drive on the Satolpur-Shamsernagar road and arrested Ataur Rahmam with the drugs.

Then, BGB also detained Saifur Rahman as he tried to attack on BGB members. 

The duos have been sent to the jail through a court order after a case was filed against them with the PS.

Kulaura PS OC Golam Afsar confirmed the matter.

MYMENSINGH: Army personnel, in a drive, arrested two individuals along with 28 kilograms of hemp from Gouripur Upazila in the district.

The team from Netrakona Army camp arrested Asiya Khatun and Chan Mia.

The operation took place late on Monday night under the leadership of Major Jisan, deputy commander of the Netrakona Army camp. 

According to Major Jisan, acting on a tip-off, the army team raided Asiya Khatun's house in West Para area of Moilakanda Village and seized 28 kilograms of cannabis. During the raid, Asiya Khatun was arrested, followed by the detention of Chan Mia. 

The two were handed over to Netrakona Narcotics Control Department for further legal action. Authorities have vowed to take strict action against the suspects and continue the investigation to apprehend others involved in the drug trade, the army official added.

SAVAR, DHAKA: Police arrested two drug peddlers along with 35 bottles of foreign liquor in Ashulia area under Savar Upazila in the district on Monday night.

The arrested men are: Md Saddam Hossain, 30, hailed from Mymensingh; and Md Habibur Rahman Habi, a resident of Ashulia area. 

Acting on a tip-off, a team of police conducted a drive at around 10 pm in Nabibagar area on the Dhaka-Nabinagar road and arrested the duo under a foot over bridge in the area. 

The police then recovered the liquor from their possession. 

Sub-Inspector of Ashulia PS Masud Al Mamun confirmed the matter.

BAGERHAT: Police arrested two drug peddlers along with 200 pieces of yaba tablets from Fakirhat Upazila in the district recently. 

The arrested men are: Sheikh Fakrul Islam, 48, a resident of Perikhali Village under Rampal Upazila; and Azad Sikdar, 40, hailed from Narail District. 

Acting on a tip-off, a team of police conducted a drive in Mahandra Bus Stand area under Fakirhat Upazila and arrested the duo with the drugs.

Fakirhat Model PS OC Alamgir Kabir confirmed the matter, adding that a case was filed against the duo under the Narcotics Control Act with the PS.

MADARIPUR: Police, in a drive, arrested two alleged women drug peddlers along with 30 kg of hemp from Ghoshalkandi Village under Rajoir Upazila in the district recently. 

Being tipped off, the drive was conducted under the direction of Superintendent of Police (SP) in Madaripur Saifuzzaman and the leadership of SI Sheikh Nurul Islam.

The arrested are: Khadija Begum, 30, a tenant of Minzal Fakir of Ghoshalkandi Paschim Para Village, and Kajal Begum, 32, another tenant of the same house.

According to police sources, both of them are residents of Talkanda Village of Bhanga PS in Faridpur District. They have been involved in drug trade for a long time.

SP Saifuzzaman said that a case under the Narcotics Control Act has been registered with Rajoir PS and the ant-drug campaign will continue.

DAULATPUR, KUSHTIA: Members of Department of Narcotics Control (DNC) arrested two people along with 2,100 pieces of tapentadol tablets and phensedyl in separate drives from Daulatpur Upazila in the district recently.

The arrested men are: Ripon Driver, son of Khoda Box, a resident of Hosenabad area under Mathurapur Union; and Ripon, son of Harez Mandal of Sonaikundi Village under Hogalbaria Union in the upazila. 

It was known that a team of the District DNC led by its Inspector Khabir Ahmed conducted a drive in the house of Ripon Driver in Hosenabad area, and detained him along with 2,100 tapentadol tablets worth about Tk six lakh.

In another drive, the DNC members arrested Ripon along with three bottles of phensedyl from Sonaikundi area.

After filing of separate cases under the Narcotics Control Act with Daulatpur PS, the arrested were sent to the jail following a court order.
 
District DNC SI Md Russell Kabir confirmed the matter.  

GOALANDA, RAJBARI: Police arrested two people including a woman along with heroin from Goalanda Upazila in the district recently. 

The arrested men are: Faysal Sheikh, 25, hailed from Khulna District; and Helena Aktar, 45, wife of Zahid Sheikh, a resident of Goalanda Upazila in Rajbari. 

Acting on a tip-off, a team of the law enforcers conducted a drive in Daulatdia West Para Poravati area and arrested the duo along with 4.8 grams of heroin, said Goalanda Ghat PS OC Rakibul Islam. 

The accused have been produced before the court after filing of a case under the Narcotics Control Act with the PS, the OC added.

CUMILLA: The paramilitary BGB has detained two Indian citizens with liquor from Shahpur frontier of the district recently.
The arrested persons are Md Roni, 21, son of Delwar Hossain, and Md Delwar Hossain, 18, son of Ayub Ali, said a BGB release signed by Cumilla Battalion Commander (10 BGB) Lt Col Md Iftekhar.

They are inhabitants of Suvapur Village under Sonamura PS of Sipahjjla District, Tripura, India.

They were handed over to the Kotwali Model PS in Comilla where a legal process is underway in this connection under Section 4 of the Bangladesh Control of Entry Act, 1952 and Section 24 (a) of Table 36 (1) of the Narcotics Control Act, 2018, he added.

DINAJPUR: Five alleged drug peddlers including a woman were arrested along with a huge consignment of drugs from Fulbari Upazila in the district recently.

The arrested persons are: Minati Mardi, 52, from Pukurimor area of Kajihal Union, Mukul Murmu, 27, from Lalpara Village under Aladipur Union, Foysal Hossain, 46, from Balibhadra Village, Akalu Roy, from Rangamati Baliharpur Village, Yunus Ali, 25, from South Bheram Village in the upazila.

According to police sources, after being tipped-off, a team of police led by SIs Azad and Farid conducted a drive in Pukurimor area and arrested the five persons along with a total of 110 litres of Cholai liquor, three bottles of foreign liquor, and a some amount of hemp. 

Confirming the matter, Fulbari PS OC Khandaker Mahibbul Islam said that the arrested were sent to the jail after filling of a case under the Narcotics Control Act.

RANGPUR: Members of DNC, in two separate drives, arrested two men with huge consignment of drugs worth about Tk 84.70 lakh from their respective houses in Mithapukur Upazila of the district recently.

Acting on a tip off, a special DNC team arrested one person from Surongo Village in Shalti Gopalpur Union of the upazila and seized huge drugs worth about Tk 84.40 lakh from his possession, said Deputy Director of District DNC Biplob Kumar Modak. 

The seized contraband drugs include 650 grams of heroin, 28 grams of ice meth, 5,700 pieces of yaba tablets and 180 ampoules of TT Jessic injections. 

The arrested person is Saidur Rahman Bullet, 37, son of Sultan Ahmed, a resident of the same village, Modok said.

Another DNC team arrested Madhob Chandra Sarker, 63, son of Rajanikant Sarker of Village Joyram Jafarpur in Pairaband Union of the same upazila and seized one kilograms of hemp worth about Tk 30,000 from his possession.

"After filing two separate cases in these connections under the Narcotics Control Act, 2018, the arrested persons will be handed over to Mithapukur PS very soon," the DNC deputy director added.

NETRAKONA: Joint forces, in a drive, arrested a drug peddler along with 243 pieces of yaba tablets from Madan Upazila in the district recently. 

The arrested man is Nur Ahmed, 30, a resident of Shahpur Village under Changau Union in the upazila. 

It was known that acting on a tip-off, a team of joint forces, consisting of Army and Police personnel, conducted a drive in Madan Upazila. At that time, the law enforcement agencies arrested Nur Ahmed from his house in Shahpur Village along with the drugs.    

Imamun Nur, commander captain of Madan Army Camp, confirmed the matter, adding that the drug peddler has been handed over to the Madan PS.

PHULBARI, KURIGRAM: Police arrested a man along with phensedyl and scap from Phulbari Upazila in the district recently.

The arrested man is Abu Sama, 45, a resident of the West Dhoniram area under Borobhita Union in the upazila. 

Police sources said that acting on a tip-off, a team of the law enforcers conducted a drive in Borobhita Union of the upazila, and arrested him from his house, recovering 156 bottles of phensedyl and 101 bottles of scap. 

After filing of a case under the Narcotics Control Act with Phulbari PS, the arrested man was sent to the jail following a court order.

Phulbari PS OC Monirul Islam confirmed the matter. 

NARAYANGANJ: Police arrested two people along with 23,000 yaba tablets from Sonargaon Upazila in the district recently. 
The arrested men are: Md Jahidul Islam, 38, hailed from Gazipur District; and Md Jisan, 22, hailed from Cox's Bazar District. 

Police sources said that acting on a tip-off, a team of the law enforcers conducted a drive in Meghnaghat Toll Plaza area on the Dhaka-Chittagong highway of the upazila and arrested the duo. The law enforcers also recovered the yaba tablets from their possession at that time.

Sonargaon PS OC Abdul Bari confirmed the matter, adding that the arrested drug peddlers have been selling drug in various places in the country.

KALIGANJ, GAZIPUR: Police arrested three drug dealers along with 10o litres of jawa and five litres of cholai liquor from Kaliganj Upazila in the district recently.

The arrested persons are: Ranjan Das, 28, son of Dhirenda Chandra Das, Roni alias Jonny Chandra Das, 23, son of late Anil Chandra Das, and Md Arif, 50, son of late Wahid. All of them are residents of of Ishwapur Village under Bahardusadi Union in the upazila. 

Kaliganj PS SI Md Moniruzzaman said that on information, a team of the law enforcers conducted a drive in Ishwapur Village of the upazila, and detained the trio along with the liquor.

After filing of a case under the Narcotics Control Act with Kaliganj PS, the arrested were sent to the jail following the court order, the SI added.

Kaliganj PS OC Md Alauddin confirmed the matter.
