4 minors die from poisoning in Khulna, Jhalakathi

Four children died from consuming poison in separate incidents in two districts - Khulna and Jhalakathi, in two days. 

KHULNA: Two minor siblings died after consuming poisonous food in the district on Thursday.

The deceased were identified as Irani, 5 and Abdul Goni, 4, children of Masud Rana of Sreefaltala Chandan Shree area in Rupsha Upazila.

It was known that the two children fell sick after eating poisonous apples on Wednesday night. Shortly afterwards, they were taken to a local medical centre. 

From there, they were admitted to Khulna Sadar Hospital for further treatment. Later on, due to their deteriorating condition, they were again transferred to Khulna Medical College Hospital (KMCH), where the on-duty doctor declared them dead.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Rupsha Police Station (PS) Md Monirul Islam confirmed that matter, adding that no case was filed with the PS yet regarding this incident.

Dr Suhas Ranjan Haldar, a physician at the KMCH, said that the process of handing over the bodies of the deceased to their family after a post-mortem examination is underway.

JHALAKATHI: Two minor children died after consuming rat killing poison in Nalchity Upazila of the district on Wednesday.
The deceased were identified as Lamia Akter, 4, daughter of Kamal Hawlader, and Ramzan Hawlader, 3, son of Rana Hawlader. They were cousins in relation and residents of Akharpara Village under Kulkathi Union in the upazila. 

Ramzan's grandfather Amir Ali Hawladar said that the two children were playing outside the house in the afternoon. At that time, they found medicines used to kill rats. At one point, they ate the medicines, which left them critically sick.

The family members came to know the matter and took them to a local hospital first, and then, shifted to Barishal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital (SBMCH) for better treatment. 

Later on, both of the children died at the SBMCH on Wednesday night while undergoing treatment there.
