World Diabetes Day observed in districts

The World Diabetes Day-2024 was observed on Thursday across the country in a befitting manner.

This year's theme of the Day is - "Diabetes: Our Commitment to Good Health."

To mark the Day, different programmes were organized in districts including Barishal, Gopalganj, Joypurhat, Kishoreganj, Pirojpur and Sirajganj.

BARISHAL: In this connection, different programmes were organized in the district.

Barishal Diabetic Samity brought out a rally from Zilla School intersection at around 9 am. 

The rally ended on the premises of Advocate Hemayet Uddin Ahmed Diabetic and General Hospital on the Bandar road after parading main streets of the city.   

Besides, free diabetes test camp was also arranged on the hospital premises in the city on the occasion of the Day.

GOPALGANJ: On this occasion, different programmes were organized in the district.

Gopalganj Diabetic Samity organized a discussion meeting on the significance of the Day in the hall room of its office in the town in the morning. 

Deputy Commissioner (DC) Muhammad Qamruzzaman was present as the chief guest while Additional DC (ADC) (General) Md Golam Kabir presided over the meeting.

Superintend of Police (SP) Md Mizanur Rahman, District Civil Surgeon (CS) Dr Md Masud Rana, and Medical Director of Diabetic Samity Hospital Dr Kazi Rabiul Islam, among others, also spoke at the programme.  

JOYPURHAT: Joypurhat Diabetic Samity organized various awareness programmes in the district on the occasion of the Day. 

The programs included free diabetes testing, distribution of awareness leaflets, bringing out a rally and holding a discussion meeting.

Acting President of Joypurhat Diabetic Hospital Dr Saudagar Mizanur Rahman presided over the discussion. 

General Secretary (GS) of Joypurhat Diabetic Samity Belayet Hossain Lebu, Dr Moazzem Hossain, Dr Mamun Isahak, Dr Fatema Tuz Zahora, and Advocate MA Hai spoke about diabetes awareness in the event conducted by Joint GS of the samity K M Abdur Rahman Roni.

Earlier, a rally was brought out from the building of Joypurhat Diabetic Samity in the morning, and it ended on the premises of the Joypurhat Diabetic Hospital after parading the main streets of town.

KISHOREGANJ: In this connection, different programmes were organized in the district.

A discussion meeting was held in the conference room of the Kishoreganj Collectorate Office in the town.

DC and Kishoreganj Diabetic Samity President Fouzia Khan presided over the meeting. 

District CS Dr Saiful Islam, Chief Executive Officer of the Zilla Parishad Mst Mostari Kadery, Kishoreganj Diabetic Samity Member Secretary and Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md Abu Russell, Diabetic Hospital Consultant Dr Sushil Kumar Shil, Professor Abdul Goni, Journalist Shafiqul Islam Fakir Moti, and former GS of Kishoreganj Diabetic Samity Md Shafiqul Islam, among others, also spoke on the occasion. 

Earlier, a colourful rally was brought out in the morning, which paraded the main streets of the town.

PIROJPUR: To mark the Day, different programmes were organized in the district.

Pirojpur Diabetic Samity brought out a colourful rally in the district town in the morning. 

The rally was brought out from the premises of Pirojpur Sadar Hospital, and it ended on the District Diabetic Samity premises after parading the main streets of the town.

District CS Dr Md Mizanur Rahman inaugurated the rally as the chief guest while Medical Officer of the CS office Dr Arif Rahman presided over the programme.

President of Pirojpur Diabetic Samity Dr Habibur Rahman, its GS Reazul Haque Reaz, former GS Dr Mizanur Rahman Badal, Chief Medical Officer of the organization Dr Md Rafiqul Islam Dipu, and Medial Officer Dr Mahbuba Ferdusi Mithun were also present there. 

Among others, committee members, medical staffs of Islamic Eye Hospital, officials of the organization, students of nursing institution, medical representatives also took part in the rally.
 
Pirojpur Diabetic Samity then arranged a free diabetes test camp in the town.

SIRAJGANJ: On the occasion of the Day, Sirajganj Diabetic Samity organized different programmes in the district.

The programmes included bringing out a rally, holding a discussion meeting and arranging a free medical camp.

A colourful rally was brought out from the premises of Sirajganj Diabetic Hospital in the morning, which paraded the main streets of the town. 

After the rally, a discussion meeting was held in the town.

GS of the Sirajganj Diabetic Samity Arman Ali, Diabetes Specialist Dr AKM Ziaul Kabir, Dr Mir Shakhawat Ali, Dr Shamsul Alam Swapon, and Assistant Director (Administration) of North Bengal Medical College Hospital Abdus Salam, among others, were also present at the discussion meeting. 

The speakers at the programme said that the diabetes patients are increasing day by day in Bangladesh like elsewhere in the globe. There are currently about two crore diabetes patients in the country.

The speakers urged all the patients to walk regularly, maintain healthy diet and live disciplined lives. Besides, more than 400 people were tested diabetes free of cost in the town marking the Day.
