KHULNA, Nov 14: Khulna Metropolitan Police (KMP) arrested a member of gold smuggling syndicate from Labanchara area on Wednesday night.
Police also seized eight pieces of gold bars from his possession.
The arrested was identified as Abdul Awal, 36, son of Khalilur Rahman, residence of Alikamora Daxinpara in Chandina Upazila of Cumilla.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Labanchara Police Station (PS) Md Towhiduzzaman said, a team of the PS set up a check-post in Sachibunia Biswa Road area in the city on Wednesday night as they came to know a gold smuggler along with gold bars is coming to Satkhira border on the road.
As a passenger bus from Dhaka reached the check-post, the police team barricaded it and arrested Awal.
Earlier, police confirmed about gold bars in his belly after scanning from a city's diagnostic centre. But police did not found anything after searching.
A case was filed with Labonchara PS in this connection, the OC added.
