Khulna Metropolitan Police (KMP) arrested a member of gold smugglers' syndicate and recovered eight pieces of gold bars from his possession in the Labanchara area on Thursday night.
The arrested man is Abdul Awal, 36, son of Khalilur Rahman, a resident of Alikamora Dakhsinpara under Chandina upazila in Cumilla.
A team of Labanchara Police Station set up a check post in the Sachibunia Biswa Road area in the city at night as they came to know that a gold smuggler along with gold bars was going to Satkhira border on the route, said officer-in-charge of Labanchara Police Station Md Towhiduzzaman.
As a bus from Dhaka reached the check post, the police team intercepted the bus and arrested Awal.
The police also recovered eight pieces of gold bars from his abdomen applying special technique, he said.
A case was filed with Labanchara Police Station in this connection.
