Two siblings died after consuming poisoned food in Khulna on Thursday.

The deceased were identified as Irani, 5 and Abdul Goni, 4, both children of Masud Rana of Sreefaltala Chandan Shree area at Rupsha upazila in Khulna.

It was learnt that the two children fell sick after eating apples on Wednesday night. Shortly afterwards, they were taken to a local medical center. From there, they were admitted to Khulna Sadar Hospital for further treatment. Later, due to their deteriorating condition, they were then transferred to Khulna Medical College Hospital, where the on-duty doctors declared them dead.

Rupsha Police Station officer-in-charge Md Monirul Islam confirmed that matter.

No one has filed a complaint at the police station regarding this incident yet, he added.

Dr Suhas Ranjan Haldar, a physician at KMCH, said that the process of handing over the bodies of the deceased to their family after a post-mortem examination is underway.
