An undergraduate student died from his injuries on Thursday morning while undergoing treatment at the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in Dhaka.
He died at the CMH at about 9:30am.
Md Abdullah was a 4th year student of 2019-20 session of the Department of Political Science at Government Shaheed Suhrawardy College. He hailed from Benapole in Jashore. He had been involved in anti-discrimination movement from the very beginning.
It was confirmed by the college's Bangla department teacher Kazi Saiful Islam.
It is learnt that Abdullah was shot at in front of Bangshal Police Station at Tantibazar crossing in the capital at about 7:00pm on August 5 last. A bullet struck on the middle of his forehead. After remaining on the ground for two to three hours, he was first taken to Mitford Hospital and then to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) where an operation was conducted from 3:00am to 6:00am. He went home after being released from the hospital after two days.
After going to his village home in Jashore, Abdullah started feeling severe pain inside his head. He was then brought in Dhaka. Doctors found infection in his head which was coming out like liquid plasma. Then he went through another surgical procedure. As his condition was not improving, he was shifted to the CMH, Dhaka on August 22.
