A woman was killed and four others were injured in a head-on collision between a bus and a battery-run auto rickshaw on the Hularhat-Pirojpur road in the Nimtala area under Sadar upazila in Pirojpur district on Thursday morning.
The deceased was identified as Akhi Akhter, 34, wife of Imran Hawlader, a resident of Chirapara village unader Kaukhali upazila.
When they were going to Kaukhali from Pirojpur on a battery-run auto rickshaw, their vehicle had a head-on collision with a bus in the aforesaid area around 9:40am as the auto rickshaw tried to overtake another auto-rickshaw, leaving five people injured, including the driver of the battery-run auto rickshaw, said officer-in-charge of Pirojpur Sadar Police Station Abdus Sobhan.
Locals rescued the injured and took them to Pirojpur General Hospital.
Later, the injured were sent to Barishal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital for better treatment where Akhi died on the way to the hospital, OC said.
Police seized the bus. Legal action in this regard is under process, the OC added.
