A court in Gaibandha on Thursday sentenced a young man to death for killing his elder brother at Sadullapur upazila in the district.

Gaibandha Additional Session Court Judge Atiqur Rahman announced the verdict in the afternoon.
The condemned convict is Arif Billah, a resident of Hasanpara under Sadullapur upazila.

The court Public Prosecutor Niranjan Kumar Ghosh confirmed it.

According to the case statement, on 16 September 2021, Arif hit his brother Shahidul's head due to family feud at night. Shahidul was first admitted to Pirganj Upazila Health Complex in critical condition. When the condition worsened, doctors referred him to Rangpur Medical College Hospital. He died there on September 19, 2021 while undergoing treatment.

On the next day, on September 20, Tasfura Akter, wife of the victim Shahidul, filed a murder case against Arif Billah with Sadullapur Police Station as the plaintiff.
