Cultural Affairs Adviser Mostofa Sarwar Farooki announced on Wednesday that the Amar Ekushey Book Fair 2025 will take place at the Bangla Academy premises and the adjacent Suhrawardy Udyan, to continue the established tradition.
Farooki made the statement following a meeting at the Secretariat, responding to questions from journalists. His remarks came after several reports on Tuesday referenced a 2023 decision by the Housing and Public Works Ministry, which had considered relocating the book fair venue in 2025.
Addressing these reports, Farooki clarified, "We had already been working on this before the news broke. I've spoken with the Public Works Adviser, and our Secretary has been in touch with the Secretary of the Ministry of Public Works. The Ministry of Liberation War is also involved, and we've consulted with their Secretary as well."
He added, "I can assure you that we are moving toward a positive resolution. We expect the book fair to be held at the same location as before, and it will be organized beautifully without any issues. Three ministries are currently coordinating on this, with multiple meetings already held and more to come."
Since 1984, the Bangla Academy has been organizing the Amar Ekushey Book Fair following specific guidelines. In 2021, the event was officially renamed the Amar Ekushey Book Fair.
